Maj. Gen. Chip Chapman: Ukraine's drone attack on Russian strategic airfields will be a major loss for Putin as most of the destroyed planes cannot be replaced due to lack of production and sanctions on parts youtu.be/frTEPxsoUI8?...

"The SBU smuggled the drones into Russia, followed later by small wooden mobile cabins.... The drones were concealed under the roofs of the structures, which had been loaded on to lorries. On Sunday, the roofs were remotely opened and the drones launched towards Russian military airfields."

Some deep strategic thinking here: you shouldn't strike at critical assets of an enemy military because that cut off the "off-ramps" that said enemy shows no sign of wanting to take.

Outside Kherson, Ukraine, for VALOR Media Network and @meidastouch.com. Roads everywhere are flanked by fields littered with mines, laid by Russians to terrorize Ukrainian farmers.

Of course the shocking thing about this shocking new report is that it’s not shocking at all if you’ve been watching Musk’s decompensation over the last few years, even as he was wielding chainsaws and wreaking havoc through the government. open.substack.com/pub/charlies...

This isn’t getting nearly enough attention. Estonian navy is stopped at intercepting a shadow fleet vessel because a Russian Sukhoi Su-35 violated Estonian air space. This reduces even the implausible deniability to 0, which Russia has been relying on with the shadow fleet.

Unlike many complex issues in the world, this one is not complicated: Russia has not backed off at all from its maximalist demands, and has no interest in ending its criminal war against Ukraine. Negotiating with Putin (and/or the lackeys he’s planning to send) is futile.

Think I'm starting to see a pattern here...

Trump is hopeless when it comes to Putin - whom he both fears and admires as the Renfield to Putin's Dracula - but he has no effective national security or defense team around him to pick up the slack and actually run anything like an actual foreign policy. www.theatlantic.com/newsletters/...

"Over 900 attack drones against Ukraine in just 3 days, plus ballistic missiles, plus cruise missiles — there is no military sense in this."

🇺🇦 In Chernihiv region, Ukrainians formed a chain to welcome Ukrainian soldiers released from Russian captivity.

I think that the assessment is accurate. Trump's isolationism and refusal to provide additional aid or even sell weapons, while offering concessions to Putin have reinforced Putin's belief that he's on the right path. Rather than hastening the war's end, Trump prolonged it.

Is there a pro-Ru grifter who has NOT gotten a position in the Trump admin?

The call between Putin and Trump was a painful reminder that Trump is the junior partner in the Russian-American relationship and that Putin will continue his mass-murder campaign in Ukraine for as long as he can get away with it. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

The U.S. President, Donald Trump, had another conversation with Russia’s president today. The two-hour conversation focused primarily on Ukraine peace negotiations but also covered other topics related to the America-Russia relationship. 1/6

Charlie Sykes has a fascinating and sometimes hilarious discussion with David Frum on Trump related topics from the gift airplane that the donor has been trying to unload for 13 years to the actual nature of terrifs and who pays. I learned a lot from this one. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t...?

My take on "Biden Was Too Old" Discourse: There are two different versions of the argument. There's the objective, non-partisan, "how do you cover a president with health/cognitive issues". Then there's the partisan "was Biden the right guy to run against Trump". 1/

This is two global elections in ONE WEEK where the conservative candidate trying to become prime minister not only led his party to a big loss but lost their own seat in parliament (!) in huge upsets. We are global pariahs unseen since the end of the Cold War and need stronger domestic opposition.

Both Rubio's tweet, and the response, are remarkable artifacts. You have a Secretary of State tweeting right wing talking points to defend Neo Nazis, and the country where Nazis originated telling him to sod off.

Trump: “Somebody said, ‘Oh the shelves are going to be open.’ Well, maybe the children will have two dolls instead of 30 dolls. And maybe the two dolls will cost a couple bucks more than they would normally.”

Seems this is a much watered down version of the first draft. Ukr doesn’t repay military aid it received, keeps ownership, no danger to EU accession. Ukr gets vague security promises; US gets vague profit promises. If Trump touts this as a major success, Ukr has achieved its diplomatic goal.

I agree with Minna…she’s smart and she’s right. Ukraine should not take a bad deal that doesnt meet their interests. They are actually winning on the battlefield, according to SACEUR Cavoli’s testimony in front of HASC and SASC…and the Russians will never live up to any agreement unless compelled.

The reality is war. If Trump wants to change that reality, he would have to learn about and use policy tools to support Ukraine and discourage Russia. No sign of either yet.

Ukrainian fighters demonstrate the capabilities of the Ardal ground drone. It overcomes 30° slopes, 80 cm trenches, 30 cm obstacles. Performs logistics, mining, wounded evacuation. Payload: up to 200 kg, tows 500 kg, 3 tons on asphalt. Endurance: 30 km on single battery, 50 km on dual.

For Americans concerned about whether US aid to Ukraine has been misappropriated, there are American auditors on the ground, but the best proof is that russia now occupies only 19% of Ukraine after over three years of full-scale war, compared to 30% after the first month in 2022
