During the last RL world cup I solidified my view that Nathan Cleary was over hyped and Jerome Luai underrated ... Luai outplayed Cleary throughout that tournament and he did the right thing striking out on his own this year ... the disparity continues into Origin selection tonight ... go Maroons!

"PME is issuing a blanket warning to US money managers, amid concerns America’s investment industry is caving in to pressure from the Trump administration to abandon basic principles of stewardship." www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Dutch custodians of retirement funds clearly have a markedly different attitude to the largest custodians of Australians' retirement savings ... www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Hysteria again in the NRL about clamping down on head contact with sinbinning ... The problem is not actions to protect player welfare from repetitive head injury and concussion ... 1/4

Last year there were many score blowouts in the NRL - it was one of my main criticisms with the manic speed game it now is ... this year there are a lot of blowout first halves which don't really blowout in the second but don't tighten either 🤔 ... they're still boring coz the game is over !!!

In capitalism there is much wealth to be made from caring FOR people But nothing to be made from caring ABOUT people ... As capitalism became increasingly Extreme, this disparity became stark. 1/2

Stubbornness absent emotional intelligence is an insurmountable handicap. Mistaking it for a virtue is the greatest failing of Trump like Putin and other megalomaniacs. Along with the extreme valuation gap, this is why I am allocating capital to China and not the US (Berkshire Hathaway excepted).

I think we just saw the whites (and reds) of Trump's eyes ... I wouldn't call that market imposed discipline ...

When I wrote this I did not envisage a far right President setting the system alight in a bonfire ... It is clear that Trump aims for a Great Reset of his own, but all he is proving is that Extreme capitalism at extremis is failed and Xcaps are the greatest saboteurs of authentic capitalism ...

Worth a repost given what is happening in global markets ...

Globalisation has never been the 'problem' - the problem has been Extreme capitalism where the benefits accrued to the wealthy while the workers in developed countries were hurt from losing their ability to earn income and workers in poor countries did not see enduring relief from precarity ...

The sad reality I'm learning with cancer is that even while hoping and praying for good news, we know happiness is never truly possible because many have and will not receive that good news ... personal relief is really what we hope and pray desperately for ...

In greater detail where things went wrong ... And where to begin to get us back on track ... macroedgo.com/2023/06/23/r...

Don’t travel to the US.

Thought I would give a personal recount of my experience of Cyclone Winifred now almost 40 years ago ...

I spent Cyclone Winifred in Mourilyan - in the centre of the arrow... My family abandoned our old sugarcane cutters barracks home and rode it out in a new brick house of friends, watching roofing iron ripped off, hurtling by... Don't be complacent - this is serious... www.jcu.edu.au/__data/asset...

This is one of my lasting memories of Cyclone Winifred which went through Innisfail in 1986 when I was in Year 12, and we missed about a week of school ... Winifred had mean maximum gusts of 126 km/h with gusts to 150 ... at present Alfred sustained winds at centre of 100 km/h with gusts to 140 ...

Hitler & Trump were products of their time and environment. Hitlerism was borne of enforced austerity from the Treaty of Versailles leading to poverty, shame and resentment. The increasingly Extreme capitalism that successive American generations endorsed did the same and led the way to Trumpism ...

Yep, seen that in action by a great leader mistreated and damaged in the former type of workplace, then carry that pain over when transitioning to a (slightly) better workplace and lead change by doing the latter ... that's key - learn and ensure you work towards better so everyone benefits ...

Summary output from ChatGPT for "Please compare and contrast the political progression of Hitler up to June 1934, so immediately prior to the "night of the long knives", with that of Donald Trump being sure to discuss Trump's actions around the attack on the capitol on 6th of January 2021."

As an ex-NQer I have some experience with cyclones ... Cyclone tracking can be erratic, but remember this ... in the southern hemisphere the wind at the base of a cyclone goes clockwise, & on an east-facing coastline the region south of the eye (i.e. Brisbane) is blasted with wind off the ocean ...

Extremely well said - a MUST read !

"Australia’s key ally has gone rogue – and Trump has us expertly wedged. We need a Plan B." Read my new op-ed in The Guardian here: (www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...)

Rather than dial back on the gambling ads or the kickbacks to fix its integrity nightmare, the AFL is now demanding it receive the private info of every punter so it can track who they are. We need to break the toxic nexus between gambling and sport. www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...

Good article saying as much ... balanced, but saying "statistic[s] mask[ed] the deepening chasm for a while" is like saying the forest masked the worsening health of the trees - economists have been confused for 4 years, but if you can see the failings of Extreme capitalism, it's been obvious ...
