The idea of vampires being compelled to use their real names or their anagrams comes from "Carmilla" (1872) by J. Sheridan Le Fanu about the titular and archetypal lesbian vampire who was born as Countess Mircalla, then went by Millarca and finally Carmilla. The novella predates Dracula by 25 years.
