Update: Nightreign is consuming my every waking thought. Jk Jk … Sort of.

Me 6 hours ago: Surely it isn’t absurdly difficult to get provincial photo ID if your passport expired and your birth certificate is potentially too faded/ smudged to be accepted. Me now:

Like most soulsies, beating Nightreign doesn’t make me feel any less compelled to keep playing, but it’s pretty rare that I want to do so -immediately- Game got those hooks.

Beat Nightreign! Final boss good, which seems to be the general consensus, although I’ve seen some folks saying they’re too hard. I actually think it might be one of the easiest endbosses in the extended From catalogue, and even in its own game, Libra is harder. It’s fun and a great spectacle!

Nightreign may just be my favourite multiplayer game right now. Insane thought, I had so little faith in it beyond ‘game to kill a few hours with,' but it just clicks so well.

One of my myriad problems with FFXVI is that it’s setting, premise, and narrative overall scream ‘curated FF Tactics story’ to me, and it instead an only partially realized character action game with fetch quests and an empty (entirely pointless) open world.

Thread of my Loyal Hound Vesna comic:

Nightreign is probably the most ‘not for everyone’ FromSoft Soulsie, maybe save for Sekiro, but damn… it’s for me.

I’m never one to blame customers for the ills of an evil company, but the number of times in the last 5 years I’ve seen magic players extremely vocally upset about something WotC is doing and then turn around and spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on new cardboard is vexing.

FFXVI Eikon fights are near-universally either absolute dogshit (while looking sick) or 50% good 50% ‘cool but dull,’ so Bahamut being actually fun and cool the whole time was shocking. Titan was also fun for a big chunk, and the transformation ruled, but the gameplay in that second half sucked.

I’m past 2/3rds of the way through FFXVI and I still don’t have concrete thoughts. It’s messy in ways it shouldn’t be, and makes some absolutely insane narrative decisions any editor should have flagged. I’m still compelled to play tho. Bahamut was great; only Eikon fight to feel good the whole run.

I have now played Nightreign with a 3-stack of friends, and it is revelatory how much better it is than solo. Like, obviously it was going to be better, but it is degrees of magnitude better. One-shot it first time getting to the first lord, almost got 2 more. Some of the most fun I’ve had in months

Pragmata? Here?

I’m actually really excited to play Nightreign with some pals because playing solo is just not quite what I want out of a From solo experience. It HAS made me pine for some solo FromSoft, but funnily enough it hasn’t made we want to play Elden Ring again, it’s actually giving me the Sekiro itch.

Nightreign is so weird because the movement is awesome, and I love the idea of being forced to scrounge for random trash instead of bee-lining straight for the weapons I know carry a build, but it so massively discourages experimentation or inefficient play, it often feels even MORE narrow than ER.

Dokapon Kingdom remains the perfect video game

Dokes is a go, sometime around 5PM eastern, running for a couple hours. Come enjoy the devastating disintegration of friendship by way of capitalism and one motherfucking clown.

Barring an unforeseen disaster (which has happened twice now, so it’s not even that unlikely) my pals and I will be streaming some Dokapon on Friday. Glory-be to the Dokes.

Okay, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Tactics game? Real good. It's a belt-scrolling brawler, but turn-based. Control a single character with a set of moves that do juggles, knockbacks, stuns, etc, stage hazards, the level constantly pushing you forward, three lives per stage. Seems semi-random spawns too

Let's show and tell your favourite underdog games! Below 500 Steam user-reviews. 100, even better! Link it and say why you love it! Copy Kitty is a dense, technical Treasure-inspired platform shooter with heart, and a fantastic NG+ mode that continues the story. It gets better the deeper you go.

Anyway I had some good days lately, kinda let myself open up and feel stuff again, and it’s come back around and I’m kinda really really regretting it, so I’m just gonna not do that for a while.

Almost without fail, if I have a really good day, I’ll get depressed in the next day or two. But like… really depressed, and sometimes for days. My solution is to just sort of emotionally flatline, which functionally prevents the REAL lows, but also any highs. Never figured out what to do about it.

Tragically, for a second week in a row, Dokapon has been put on hold.

The original Doom was full of demons and crosses to be edgy, but metal album art aesthetics aren't edgy anymore. Nobody is gonna accuse Doom: The Dark Ages of being satanic in a bad way or blame it for school shootings. They need to step it up. Doomguy has to transition and get real good at tennis.
