A statement from @asauthors.bsky.social on the appalling rescindment of the black&write! fellowship this week. "This represents yet another alarming instance of the undermining of freedom of expression and arms-length arts funding from a major institution." www.asauthors.org.au/news/state-l...

If I never see another Trumpet of Patriots ad again, it will be too soon. We need a nationwide exorcism of Clive Palmer

Was going to post the same. C'mon Labor, let's make some actual progress now!

Week 2 KSP Writers' Centre Fellowship post ✍️ I am so grateful for this gift of time and space. Being able to concentrate fully on my short story project has let me think deeply about how place shapes us and how story can reveal that molding process. (1/3)

Hearing about the Sheroic Old Lady Nazi puncher has made my day.

Started today's writing session by completing the draft for a 200 word micro-fic story. Phew, time to take a break at *checks time* 9:23am. #amwriting

KSP Writers' Centre Fellowship week 1 post: Sometimes I find myself looking at the birds in the garden. It's hard not to; the view from the window is so inviting. I've still managed to meet my daily word target and at this point I have several new poems and micro-fiction pieces, one completed (1/3)

Easter in the genocide. Again.

Seems relevant

I am beyond excited to be one of this year's KSP Writers' Centre Fellows. I'll be using my two week residency to work on a collection of short fiction. Thank you to the wonderful folk at KSP for all your support of the local writing community 💓

LE MONDE asked me to write an article about American literature in the age of Trump, but then decided it didn't like what I wrote. Oh well. Here it is in LitHub: "Most American literature is the literature of empire."

Been rewatching some Love Death + Robots in anticipation of season 4 and OMG the commentary on late stage capitalism and social collapse in season 3's last episode...do yourself a favour and watch it! It's just the dark humour you need for these interesting times #lovedeathandrobots

This is amazing.

Any fellow NYC Midnight short story comp people here? How many times have you checked your inbox for the results email? 😉 #nycmidnight

I used to be an English teacher and we'd use the Oxford Collection of WWI Poetry every year (Brooke, Sassoon, et al) to teach war poetry. This book is going to be that, once the blinders come off

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, one of the richest people in the world, has said that creative workers “overestimate” the value of their work for training AI. He thinks he should be able to rip off their work for free.

Books and babies, beautiful!

Love this poem

Picture book launch fun! Thanks to the SLWA and WritingWA for hosting us

Just submitted a story to a competition, so I'm now feeling that excited, what-a good-writer-am-I feeling. Until I get the "Thank you for your submission, however..." email, or worse, no email!

Australian politicians need to actually talk like Australians more often 😂

After yesterday's picture book fun, I'm now working on a horror story (not for kids) that involves death cap mushrooms. It took me on an exciting internet search about mushroom reproduction. So much horror story potential! #amwriting

The launch of my second picture book, Hoo Hoo Squawk Squawk, was a success but even more exciting was receiving fan art! Talking to kids about books is the best bit. Primary school teachers and librarians, contact me for a school visit 🤩 #childrenspicturebookauthor #childrenspicturebookillustrator

I submitted a flash fic piece to Aniko Press for the latest flash comp. I didn't win but I got a special mention *feels proud* You can read the winning stories here www.anikopress.com/fiction #flashfiction

"Science fiction lends itself readily to imaginative subversion of any status quo. Bureaucrats and politicians, who can't afford to cultivate their imaginations, tend to assume it's all ray-guns and nonsense, good for children." - Ursula K. Le Guin (2012) [Anthology idea: Ray-guns and Nonsense]

I'll be chatting with the lovely folk from the Gosnells Writers' Circle tomorrow on Heritage 107.3FM! Western Australian followers, you can tune in live between 2-4pm at 107.3FM, otherwise listen online anytime at www.hfm.radio
