*intake of breath* Ciaran Mullooly used AI to write a letter to Ursula von der Leyen about EU aid to Gaza, quoting Swedish House Mafia and including a story about a fake girl. *collapses* www.thejournal.ie/ciaran-mullo...

‘The Poachers’ by James A O'Connor (1792-1841) et al @nationalgalleryirl.bsky.social I wrote about it & other paintings of moonlight in Irish art history in the Scrimshaw Journal of New Writing & Visual Art (Vol. 4). A lovely publication that brings together ATU campuses 🙏 @oflynnatu.bsky.social

Towns and villages along the coast of Ireland currently have thousands of properties and rooms available to rent on a short-term basis – but many have no long-term accommodation at all

John Sweeney: Sorry, kids. We blew your climate budget - but we really love our SUVs

Cub found alone in US woods now being raised by wildlife staff in bear costumes

The so called Leprechaun house at Carrowkeel, Sligo is a ruined Neolithic tomb. Sliced by a field boundary, some of its material is used in the stone walls… I was inspired by this to come out of “drawing retirement” (1/2) 🧵

Ah no! Sorry to hear this, Paul Durcan RIP

Beautiful day at Killary Fjord, the May hawthorn is in bloom, the sun is shining and the weekend is looking good. Get out and enjoy it, wherever you are, while it’s still here… life is too short 🙏

Been preoccupied with this little guy lately 😀

The Japanese celebrate their cherry blossom, why don’t we celebrate our hawthorn? Currently lighting up the countryside in white splendour, get out and enjoy it and appreciate the wonderful array of superstitions attached to it too!👇 @rtebrainstorm.bsky.social www.rte.ie/brainstorm/2...

Spot the replica. One a modern carving from Co. Sligo the other from a 15th C castle in Co. Galway

A king and his army are said to sleep under Grianán of Aileach & can be summoned only when Ireland is in it’s direst need: a woman must light four fires, one north, one south, one east & one west, then they will charge forward to set the country free. #IrishFolklore courtesy @tuatha.ie 🤓

Great to see my book among some esteemed company here 😊

I think about this, often 🙈 image via WhatsApp

I see there were no women in Tuam in the past. (M17 plaza)

May Eve in the West of Ireland Nothing bad getting into this house this evening 😉

It’s May Eve: read more about old Irish customs and beliefs of this evening and the month ahead in my piece for @rtebrainstorm.bsky.social www.rte.ie/brainstorm/2...

"Tanning, smoking, driving without a seat belt – there are plenty of things we did in the past that we do far less of these days. .... It’s well past time to replace frequent-flyer rewards with a frequent flyer levy." Joanne Hunt in today's @theirishtimestoday.bsky.social #buyanewspaper #climate

Nice to see my piece about Irish fairy forts creeping up the ‘most read’ chart @rtebrainstorm.bsky.social just behind Inflation and Donald Trump #priorities 😀

St Patrick’s holy well with Grianán of Aileach in the background, Co.Donegal. Resplendent with biodegradable offerings, as it should be. Would have completely missed this if I hadn’t been told about it by @tuatha.ie Highly recommend a visit! www.tuatha.ie/grianan-of-a...

How Easter in Ireland was once associated with traditions like 'whipping the herring', the 'black fast' on Good Friday and 'cake dances' on Easter Sunday. By @marionmcgarry.bsky.social www.rte.ie/brainstorm/2...

Good Friday in Ireland used to be like a day of mourning: businesses closed & religious rituals observed to commemorate Christ’s suffering. Not so much anymore. Read more about forgotten Irish folk traditions of this time in my piece on @RTEBrainstorm 👇 www.rte.ie/brainstorm/2...

@armaghrhymers.bsky.social enjoying watching ye on @tg4.bsky.social great to see such traditions continued

“Raising awareness of heritage, beliefs and facts plays a significant role in preservation of such sites. People should not be driven solely by superstition or folklore in their approach to fairy forts, but should also see them as important archaeological sites.”

My late great aunt’s kitchen. Just an empty, derelict space now and most of the dramatis personae have long departed this world. I snuck in to capture it on camera when it went up for sale.

Lovely day in Kilkenny to meet with the team on the BA(hons) Jewellery & Goldsmithing a partnership of @atu-ie.bsky.social / Design & Crafts Council of Ireland. A pleasure to have led the Design History module. Loved seeing student prototypes, such as these Claddagh rings @oflynnatu.bsky.social
