this is just like the parable of the scorpion and the scorpion

I know America can build things quickly and efficiently because we do it for cars all the time. The slow, arduous permitting and construction processes we have for public transit, bike infrastructure, green energy, and housing are a policy choice that we are free to stop making whenever we want.

The lack of urgency around land use and vehicle miles traveled — a major contributor to emissions — continues to stun me. In California, the nominally progressive head of the Senate housing committee is opposed to denser housing construction because she's worried about parking!

It's not murder if you kill with a car, it's just an inconvenience. Now letting your kids play outside, that's murder.

This is what happens when we don't have kink at pride

Again, murder is legal in America if you do it with a car

These people were following the law and went to check in with immigration like they are supposed to. This woman's immigration case was dismissed, which made her immediately undocumented. So ICE took her into custody. The air conditioning was off in the back of the truck. "I can't breathe."

Yesterday’s critical mass ride protesting the NYPDs new criminal summons policy.

you actually can’t price control your way out of a housing shortage, sorry. building is necessary

Hey so what’s the magic number of police funding we need to hit so they’ll stop spending all day playing Pokemon Go and shooting people for sport causing hundreds of millions in settlement payouts by the city annually? Are we almost there so we can get back to funding these programs? No?

Newsom needs to endorse actual legislation to enable people to move to safer areas. His silence on sb79 to do just that is deafening.

We want to see a HLA-style ordinance for LA County! THIS TUESDAY, let the County Board of Supervisors know you support item #17: the acceleration for the implementation of the Los Angeles County Master Bicycle Plan. Details: mailchi.mp/streetsforal...

its genuinely incredible that the government has been taken over by vandals, thieves, and bald-faced liars and the media is more or less reporting on them like they're normal heads of state

my takeaway from reading 150 years worth of historical transit and planning documents is that the solutions have been known the entire time and studies are just a way for people who don't want change to waste time

I am a street camera extremist. Put a robot on every single intersection; ticket every single driver who speeds or runs a red light, every single time.

yes

Is this what should surround the stations on our transit systems? Call your state senator to voice your support for SB 79!

Chinatown has some of the most dangerous streets in the city because they're designed as high-speed cut throughs between DTLA and the freeways. CM Hernandez could order road diets, crosswalks and traffic calming measures, but for some reason hasn't bothered doing so.

👏 seize 👏 the 👏 golf 👏 courses! 👏

The Netherlands has ~19M people. This area in Southern California? ~23M. One has dense, connected, regional transport. The other is trapped in traffic. Remind me again why we can’t build better transit and healthier cities when we’ve got the population to support it?

Ms. Rachel has seized control of the military and begin jailing political opponents (DEVELOPING)

In case you were wondering how long we’ve known that mobility in cities is fundamentally a space problem, this was from Wichita Falls, Texas in 1927. The streetcar was electric. And they would need more cars today because of fewer average people in each car. HT Peter Norton

when i say we should have reliable public transportation and safe bike routes, i really mean "if you drive a car at any time for any reason you are a fundamentally evil and irredeemable person. you have failed society. we should turn every road into a bicycle"

People think that Marin has uniquely bad climate policy, but it's actually a California problem. Thanks to the genius model developed by the state, expanding your bikeway network to cover 100% of city streets with separated paths would result in a 0.5% (not a typo!) reduction in GHG from cars.

I too am in this tiny, weird, risible bubble of one million people who rely on @metrolosangeles.bsky.social

Americans accept tens of thousands of deaths and *millions* of injuries every year of disproportionately young, healthy people as the reasonable cost of riding around cities in motorized easy chairs and if you say that’s an unacceptable and insane price to pay you sound like a crazy person.

Not building new housing is the surest recipe for increased costs, gentrification of existing neighborhoods, and homelessness. Can we please stop pretending that if more isn’t built, the people with money won’t buy or rent the existing units?

This is a Portland bioswale appreciation post.

"Have the empathy to do what's right for the generations to come." Last week, Ipswich Town Meeting voted 412-338 to pass an MBTA Communities compliant multi-family overlay district joining 130+ other Massachusetts communities to do the same. 📍Ipswich, MA
