This Thursday, May 15th, is Global Accessibility Awareness Day. As the website states, the "purpose of GAAD is to get everyone talking, thinking and learning about digital access and inclusion," specifically for people with disabilities. #GAAD #GAAD2025

A heads up if you are looking for resources on .gov sites at least when it comes to accessibility. Many of them still exist but their original urls are broken due to the administration erasing certain words from use and having no redirects to the new URL.

I was putting together a few resources for my PMs and pulled up the list of role-based trainings I had collected over the years. Went to accessibility.digital.gov and was met with a 404. I am immensely sad.

This. So much this.

Trying out this new Surf thing! Hello world!

This is your regular reminder that executive orders are not royal decrees. Because America has no king.

If you use Twitch for any kind of streaming, this resource by Liz Wait can help you make your Twitch channel more accessible to people with disabilities. dev.to/auraswap/acc...

I have seen more men discuss far-right conspiracy theories in class this semester than in all my past classes combined. They've also more aggressively and emotionally challenged what I teach - as opposed to engaging in intellectual debate I worry far more about them than any peaceful protestor

The #NoMouse Challenge is a global effort to raise awareness about accessible web design. Try using your website without a mouse. Use the keyboard instead. Is it possible to access all features and operate all buttons, sliders, and other controls? nomouse.org

"Abolish ICE" was the correct take then and it's the correct take now.

This thread articulates exactly what I've been thinking lately. I simply cannot comprehend how fear of autism leads some parents to risk their child's life by avoiding vaccines. The willingness to accept fatal diseases as preferable to neurodiversity reflects the deep reality of ableism.

This is a great take on overlays and personalization! Also, if you're ever approached by someone who asks if your org or business should use accessibility overlays (rather than fix their own issues), say no and send them this! Along with the overlayfactsheet.com/en/

Accessibility in gaming! This is so cool!

"Cyclists are always running stop signs!" Yes they make no sense for us, legalize treating them as yields

If you haven't read Ibtihal Aboussad's email to Microsoft employees, I highly recommend you read it! Ibtihal was one of the protestors at Microsoft's recent anniversary event who was fired. www.theverge.com/news/643670/...

We had this exact debate before deciding to buy our Urban Arrow Family cargo bike. Thought about going for a hybrid van as we were starting to expand our family, but decided it was more worth it in the long run to go the cargo bike route. Have not been disappointed or regret the decision at all.

An emoji has a coded description that gets read aloud by screen readers. Putting emoji in between text could cause confusion or make content less clear. It's best to put emoji at the end of written content.

Same!

This is good and right.

"ignorant and impolite" JD Vance, love it

SCOTUS right now.

Coming to an airport near you with those "convenient" face recognition tools which scan you so you walk out without doing any paperwork, will be security personnel matching your face to anything you've said or done and deciding whether you get harassed or not. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Stonks.

Happy First Contact day to all those who celebrate 🖖🏻

Today's edition of things my nearly 4 year old daughter said that surprised me, "A diamond is not really a diamond. It's a rhombus". Girl you are not wrong.

Good and timely reminders from @aworkinglibrary.com on how to move forward right now: organize; gather your strength; find your people; try new things; and — maybe most critically — make art. everythingchanges.us/blog/keep-mo...

So, the DOGE kids intend to rewrite the social-security administration's COBOL code-base! and they want to do it ... ... in *a few months* I did a huge dive into COBOL a few years ago (www.wealthsimple.com/en-ca/magazi...) ... ... so let me explain why DOGE is *way* over its skis here 1/9

We truly are in late stage capitalism now.
