People have got to stop trying to find some fictional comp to Elon. He's not Syril, he's not Destro, he's a rich piece of shit who has always been evil and used to know how to manipulate public perception and is just getting ever-increasingly louder and dumber about it.

posting this for no reason

Love Death + Robots has a short story (400 Boys by Passion Animation) in which massive babies obliterate everything around them and a bunch of oppressed humans need to band together to stop them, and watching the two dumbest, pettiest men on earth slap fight online makes that short feel prescient.

Clearly nothing to hide, right? (Also just realizing I never noticed their Eye of Sauron icon.)

Line of the night, possibly the line of the entire campaign tonight during D&D: "Even the necromancer won't have sex with a puppet in a church."

“I’m just going to say it, shame on any of us who throws a trans child under the bus for thinking they’re going to get elected. That child deserves our support. Don’t worry about the pollsters calling it distractions, because we need to be the party of human dignity.”

I spent a year editing interviews by privacy/information security consultants on the risks of generative AI and when I see an article saying "everyone is using it and not saying so" I think about how many execs in those calls tried to find ANY viable excuse to justify using it despite the risks.

perhaps it is time for a new indie film boom. please give me some nice talky low-budget films actually made by people who are passionate about what they—they themselves, not their plagiarism machines—are doing. please.

'One animator who asked to remain anonymous described a costume designer generating concept images with AI, then hiring an illustrator to redraw them — cleaning the fingerprints, so to speak. “They’ll functionally launder the AI-generated content through an artist,” the animator said.'

‘The survey also found that only a third of five-to-10 year olds frequently read for fun, compared to over half in 2012. This could be because their parents are less likely to read to them before they turn five: 41% of parents of all ages reported doing so, a steep drop from the 64% in 2012.’ 📚💙

Do a terrible job of describing a favorite movie: Hungry fish ruins summer vacation for everyone.

If I were going to put money on which author would announce their next book was written by AI, "that con artist with the memoire in Oprah's book club" would've been a top three bet. Frey's such a slimeball I'd put money on the book being written by a human and this is a paid marketing ploy.

The “AI jobs apocalypse” heralded by AI CEOs like Dario Amodei and Sam Altman is a story with one particular audience in mind: the bosses who are eager to see it happen

I add a lot of books to my dndbeyond account for the players I DM for to access, arguably too many books to be honest, but I don't think any one book has raised the eyebrows of more players than "Steinhardt's Guide to the Eldritch Hunt" from MonkeyDM. They are DEVOURING the spells in this.

Someone else said something very similar to this the other day, but. It really burns me that our (millennials') generation was legally terrorized for like, downloading Radiohead discographies But we're supposed to be ok with billionaires stealing human intellectual output in its entirety bc AI

NOW— Mass ICE arrests happened/are happening at the Manhattan immigration court at 290 Broadway on the 20th floor. I was just outside the building and an observer came out crying, confirmed they witnessed people getting detained outside courtrooms while families watched and wept.

So, this Unbound/Boundless fiasco. I was going to be polite about it, but after this morning’s email: no

I had a friend who loved cyberpunk back in our 20s who said she'd "beta test a datajack" in her skull, but in our modern world of enshittification, planned obsolescence, and constant surveillance... do not let a company put something in your brain, FFS

I love this panel.

Love Death + Robots: Another magnificent run. Sometimes it screams into the abyss, sometimes it smirks into it, but every season it does so with elegant artistry, profound weirdness, and slivers of madness.

I want to offer a public apology to FDA head Marty Makary for calling him an ignorant piece of shit in a post last night. I just learned he is an islet transplant surgeon. Yes, the cells that produce insulin. I was wrong. He is not ignorant. This piece of shit knows *exactly* what he is doing.

Current events seeping into dark fantasy/noir project I'm working on right now, but the first lines of the two chapters I worked on this weekend: "It was the most boring, mundane magic Charmian had ever seen, and that somehow made it all worse." And "Olivar Stane was tired of dying."

I don't know why folks are saying Bluesky is dying (again) but what I do know is that that if I drop a post on here I don't stress about it, if make a similar comment over on threads there's a 75% chance I'll need to block double-digit numbers of dickheads, so whatever is wrong here is still fine.

I’m seeing so many posts about what Peter David’s work meant to people. If the fact that he was so prolific and created so many wonderful stories for so many of our favorite characters yet still needed a GoFundMe to pay healthcare costs doesn’t show that the comics are broken, I dunno what will

Ah, I see it is time for the weekly reminder that traditional publishing is not a meritocracy.
