If that’s what they do to a United States Senator with a question, imagine what they can do to any American that dares to speak up. We will hold this administration accountable.

This is what Trump's government thugs are willing to do in broad daylight, to a US Senator, with cameras on. They are sending the message that anyone who disagrees with Trump isn't safe in America. This is authoritarianism.

I fear that if Dems keep following popularists on this and remain silent in the face of this huge admission by Trump about his own mass deportations, they will inadvertently let *him* reset on this issue. That cannot happen, Dems. You need to put your stamp on what's right and good policy right now.

Everyone I knew who covered disinformation got laid off, their bosses got bullied into firing them, or they changed their beats from actual Nazi harassment campaigns. It cannot be stressed the damage the paid-for Substack “free speech” guys did in the service of fascism and against real free speech.

Mike Breen nails it

When we throw up our hands and say none of it matters, we're doing the fascists’ work for them. They don't need to hide their corruption if they can convince us it's pointless to look. They don't need to silence truth-tellers if we've already decided truth is meaningless.

🧵 My small country, Estonia, population 1.3 million sent 2003-2014 over 2500 soldiers. 9 were killed in the line of duty. 109 wounded, half of them so seriously they could no longer lead a normal life. In Iraq 2003-2009 we had more than 440 soldiers. 2 were killed. 18 seriously wounded. 1/n

Canada’s military took on southern Kandahar province, which every single American I met in Afghanistan admitted was the toughest patch there was. One hundred and sixty-six Canadians died fighting a war provoked by an attack on U.S. soil, including my colleague Michelle Lang

Without comment. Keep hammering this.

good piece from @jeffhauser.bsky.social. it is maddening that so much discourse ignores that Kamala Harris ran precisely the campaign the "popularist" crowd wanted prospect.org/politics/202...

I will be damned if I allow a bunch of Confederate-waving January 6th apologists give the American people a lecture on flag waving. There is ZERO reason to enter an argument about patriotism with people who still worship traitors to America 150+ years later. They. Are. Breaking. The. Law.

It is 100% carrying water for the opposition to participate in this collective delusion that Dems for some reason need to answer for every teen who throws a rock rather than hold the Trump admin accountable for intentionally creating chaos and breaking the law to stoke violence. They are in charge.

Not true. I see you're a luxury watch dealer. I'm also interested in watches. Let me show you how free and easy migration has allowed you to earn a living. 🧵

Trump, talking at Fort Bragg right now about Los Angeles, is doing something I'm not sure I've ever seen a president do: he's actively maligning people in Los Angeles — an American city — in front of U.S. troops. And the troops are applauding. As an Army brat myself, this strikes me as very new.

The 2025 NBA Draft Guide is here. -198 pages and 160,000 words of evaluations and breakdowns on prospects in this draft class. Very deep dives on player scouts, tendencies, etc. -My final top-100 rankings (barring surprise international entrants). t.co/tEabJRwmkC

Finally got around to finishing this, a treat for any basketball fan- love the work that @mirinfader.bsky.social put in to research the early days in Lagos/Houston - exploring the long-repeated myths & legends in a new and interesting way.

I was trying to offer advice here from my experience studying these things, meant to help the protests. But I see that it came off as tone deaf and is just adding rage where no more is needed so I’ve deleted it. Still very much behind these protests and hope my worries will prove to be misplaced.

yeah I'm not sure this is so much a petty feud between two men as it is the president of the United States sending troops to attack the people they're supposed to protect

1. Trump has publicly and privately fantasized about deploying the military on US soil against protesters for years. In LA, with little justification, he has made those dreams a reality, violating longstanding democratic norms. He has manufactured a crisis. Let's review the history. 🧵

Defund these specific cops.
