I've been re-reading the book for the umpteenth time and Preacher deserves a space on the Mount Rushmore of literary villains, along with Captain Ahab and Judge Holden. Grubb pulls off the trick of making Preacher both an elemental force of evil and a small, pathetic man. LOVE and HATE, indeed.
