New covid wave likely coming to the UK. Plenty of notice. Govt doing the square root of fuck all, as it has from the time Johnson’s lot declared they’d somehow beaten an ever-evolving virus and that the threat was over. inews.co.uk/news/health/... 1/2

I’m not sure if you can overdose on schadenfreude but we’re about to find out

Elon Musk, the genius visionary who could not predict that the guy who has betrayed every person he has ever met would betray him

Four portraits from my Horse series. He was an very timid horse that took a while to gain his trust - it was pouring with rain. He is a beautiful horse in every way.

Enough of this racist fiction. Enough. Not a single non-white person in England is in a job in the NHS *because* they are non-white. Not a single one. And as for the idea that England's criminal justice system goes easy on non-white people because they are non-white. Well. Just think about that.

Let’s talk for a moment about some of the more subtle ways that the press acts as a mouthpiece for law enforcement. Actor Jonathan Joss was shot to death on Sunday. I don’t know what happened; I wasn’t there. But his husband said a homophobic neighbor shot him as part of an explicit hate crime. /1

Shameful churnalism

Today is National Biscuit Day, and it’s about time that I populated this account with biscuit (cookie) sets from the past few years. Here are some of my favourites. 🧵 First up, a set inspired by the delicious designs of William Morris and John Henry Dearle.

Bloody hell

If a former Israeli prime minister can say this, what is stopping European leaders?

OK this is my new favourite silly account

Capitalism didn't give us the internet. Large-scale cooperation, open protocols, and free software gave us the internet. Capitalism gave us mobile sites that don't work because fifteen ads cover the screen.

I miss landlines. There, I said it. Better audio, zero latency, no dropouts. And look at the functional design.

Can you believe they're going to DEMOLISH this beautiful building 🤪

@davehaslam.bsky.social I have fond memories of groovy evenings in a tent at the MiF with you on the decks. Is it happening this year? 🕺

One of the first photographers to stop me in my tracks when I was a teenager. He passed away yesterday. RIP. www.theguardian.com/global-devel...

BREAKING: ICE deported a Burmese man who doesn’t speak English to South Sudan—a country he’s not from and on the brink of civil war. He refused to sign English-only papers. They deported him anyway—with 11 others. No hearings. No translators. Court order ignored. This is state-sponsored kidnapping.

You hear from the Brexit right (and as it happens, the New European), that Sir Keir is killing Brexit. To the contrary: his deal has made it into a bipartisan project, and as a result, more likely to endure. From the email. www.economist.com/britain/2025...

I just counted a hundred posts in my timeline and only three of them were not about #eurovision. Sigh.

Jeff Bezos once mourned Jamal Khashoggi in public—now the Amazon billionaire is making billion-dollar deals with his executioner, which reveals more about his values than any vigil ever could. More in Status: www.status.news/p/jeff-bezos...

Yesterday, our monitoring plane Seabird spotted 6 boats in distress. We alerted authorities: no response. Once again, civil rescue ships stepped in. Our ship Aurora reached 2 boats with ~200 people last night. Together with @seapunks.bsky.social & @sosmediterranee.org, they were brought to safety.

It’s not the substantive evils themselves, but one of the most grating things day in and day out is having to deal with people insisting this obviously unwell man’s incoherent and erratic rants somehow reflect any kind of deliberate strategy or policy vision from a serious functional adult.

Experts continue to warn the Covid Inquiry that the UK's pandemic preparedness and resilience have gone backwards since 2020. Yesterday it was the turn of Prof. Christophe Fraser. Unless the Government knows the date of the next pandemic, its inaction is inexcusable.
