Who am I to say no to taxidermied deer heads formerly owned by David Lynch? www.juliensauctions.com/en/auctions/...

I’ve just referred to Audubon’s Birds of America double-elephant folios as “charismatic megafolios” and that’s what I’ll call them now.

Fabulous podcast episode featuring @moudhy.bsky.social on the Mesopotamian origins of written astronomy! podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t...

Today begins my week of live music! Four shows! Let’s see how well I can stay awake past my bedtime.

The NEH staff I know truly went above+beyond their jobs. Finding students at conferences to chat w/+learn about their work, core participation in DH field-defining discussions (including accessible explanations on early DH Twitter), focus on community learning (incl productive failure!) not Product™️

Whelp, June 10th fast approaches—when the majority of NEH staff will officially be let go, following our time on admin leave. If you see an NEH staffer wandering around in a daze, hire them immediately. You won't regret it. They were the best, most committed, sharpest bunch I've ever worked with.

There are so many important news and activities to keep up with and share. I’ve decided I need to return to adding some little quotidian posts too.

I don’t listen to a lot of podcasts. (If I’m listening to something, it’s music.) But there are some great listenings out there.

This is so good

I don't think anyone outside of universities, pharma and biotech, independent research institutions have any idea of what is happening right now. If you haven't sounded the alarm among your friends, family and colleagues, now is the time to do it.

As I've said before, what we're dealing with fundamentally here, and have been dealing with for some time, is evil. Our political norms and political media prohibit talking about a mainstream political faction this way. But it is the truth. It needs to be known and it needs to be said.

Just me, feeling that it’s somehow indulgent to read about things related to my job — even when I absolutely must read to do my job well. Good job, productive-work-culture brain!

Can confirm this is a great team!

Maybe we need US Senators who aren’t actually rooting for you to die.

Friends, you are important and your mental health matters. If things are tough, reach out to friends and/or mental health providers. And, if you’re like me, listen to music, including yesterday’s @djjohnrichards.bsky.social show on KEXP focusing on mental health: kexp.org/djs/john-ric...

As of today, Elon Musk is thought to be responsible for the death of 300,000 adults and kids due to the illegal closure of USAID (source: www.impactcounter.com/dashboard?vi...) That's a 103 deaths per hour, each day. And it will get worse. His legacy is one of death, destruction, and failure.

Cool thread with Jay sharing some material evidence of the creation of this book! Incunables/incunabula = books printed in Europe before 1501
