Since May: Federal district courts have ruled against Trump admin 94% of the time. Supreme Court has sided with the Trump admin 94% of the time. A judiciary at war with itself.

Happy seven new Bruce Springsteen albums day to all who celebrate.

11/10 social media work by the Durham Bulls

Respect to the Governor of Maine for her pity tour of Nova Scotia, I guess, but these governors really are struggling to appreciate how hollow their “we’re a good state!” framing is when we can all see, with our own eyes, how the border has become one of the front lines of American fascism.

Key elements available to Democrats everywhere: 1) Relentless focus on cost of living 2) Find new ways to get attention to that message. Then do it again. Repeat. 3) Build coalitions motivated by mutual dislike by unpopular elites / incumbents.

The lesson from New York is we should all have ranked ballots. The people yearn to RANK. We want to RATE and SORT.

I love that Hollywood seems to want to keep trying this even though multiple film and TV projects have failed to be realized, everyone hated the 2000 limited series, and the (deeply flawed but good!) 1994 miniseries is somehow still standing as the best-case scenario.

...except that this is the international release date, not the North American one, and a decade later I still can't understand why the US label heard this and was like, "Yeah, no, we're gonna hold this back until the end of August."

according to conservatives on the court, the constitution does not protect your right to your own body but does enable the government to ship you off to a foreign gulag without any hope of return

Shameless plug but this is a big part of what I wrote about in AUDIENCE OF ONE. There is a lot of focus, mine included, on Trump as TV 'performer' and 'programmer.' But there's a symbiosis: Trump, a child of TV, has also always very much been programmed *by* what he sees on his shows

That’s the actual quote…

The new Haim album begins with a song that interpolates “Freedom ‘90,” ends with a song that interpolates U2’s “Numb” and in the middle includes a song that comes damn close to outright lifting from Modest Mouse’s “3rd Planet.” Gen X’s shadow looms large on this one!

This is incredibly funny but, also, I hope everyone who is pro AI or a teacher that allows AI can see clear as day that the ultimate goal is to put the thumb on the scale of all of this shit. That's why they're forcing it on us. It's a joke.

Shout-out to the boomer who saw my shirt and wanted to let me know today was the movie’s 50th anniversary. My wife laughed and replied, “Oh, he knows.”

This really reads like his name is Oneohtrix Point and the author is mad that he tours without telling anyone.

After observing construction sites in the city Dartmouth geese devised the perfect booby trap

This week's hot BlueSky topic of "Was the 2003 Iraq War as stupid as things are now?" (A: Maybe yes, but different) is a great prompt to listen to Slate's Slow Burn season on the topic, which does a wonderful job reconstructing and deconstructing the American groupthink of that moment.

One of the more unsettling elements of our current historical moment is how the comically exaggerated speculative fiction of Idiocracy and WALL-E increasingly feels like... normal speculative fiction?

Hell of a chart, this, from @financialtimes.com. Spot the JCPOA. on.ft.com/4kSuQYO

Not an original point but worth saying again - there is not a single element in this picture that identifies any of these folks as law enforcement agents. No badges, no uniforms, no vests. Out of context it just looks like a bunch of random guys are kidnapping a mayoral candidate.

It has been so long since the Blue Jays were a hot team, I almost forgot what it feels like! 🔥 ⚾️

When Brian Wilson leaves this mortal coil, you go to the beach.

Listening to CBC this morning and thinking Andy didn't do himself any favors speaking to the press yesterday. First clip I heard "Unfortunately, the internet got involved." Who is this internet getting involved in HRM issues? Andy, turns out the internet is your constituents. 1/2

I'm pretty sure Suzanne Rent has been at City Hall covering council from the early morning rally until sundown, and now presumably has to go write stories about it. Please support local journalism with subscriptions to outlets such as the @halifaxexaminer.ca (reposted as I tagged the wrong page)

Halifax mayor's motion to pause bike lane contracts fails 🚲 A win for inclusive and sustainable transportation, but also a frustrating waste of time from someone who ought to know better. Thank you to everyone who spent the weekend speaking out, and to council for making the right call. #BikeHfx

Yep that's all the interests

Imagine spending your whole life cos-playing and fantasizing about fighting the federal government sending troops in against its own citizens only to root for the government when the moment finally arrives

Halifax's mayor wants to pause bike infrastructure projects even those already approved and funded by council. So a couple of hundred cyclists - me included - showed up at City Hall this morning to politely show our disagreement. Active mobility infrastructure helps traffic congestion.

Yup AI is going to cure all diseases and send humanity to the stars any day now...

Looking at all possible instances in which bike infrastructure might have affected road capacity, Kevin only found three "maybes" — and in all three cases, imperatives OTHER than bike lanes defined the scope and impact of those projects.

@keeganmatheson.bsky.social and I come from slightly different Jay-watching generations, but opening his new book with a lament for the challenges of Atlantic Time sports fandom? That’s how you know he’s a real one.

The same way a lot of people didn't realize how big the QAnon problem was until those fuckers literally stormed the capital, I fear we're a year or two away from a shocking discovery of just how many "seemingly normal" people have lost their minds "talking" with ChatGPT.

I wasn't expecting to drop everything to write this update today. Mayor Fillmore is putting forward a motion that could kill or drastically reduce the Regional Centre Bike Network. It's problematic, reckless, and lacking in evidence. My take here samaustin.ca/the-bike-net...

Slightly jealous of people who have organized their lives such that buying a $700 video game console is a straightforward task and not something where, as in my case, I need to save up for it over several months—like a child's allowance—before I can justify the expense.

I'm proud to announce that my hard work to secure funding guarantees a bike network in Halifax, which I oppose!

The minimum grid was scheduled to be completed 4 years ago and is still just patchwork. We don't even have 2 intersecting protected bike lanes. The city has been dragging it's ass for years, of course we're not meeting IMP goals

🙁😢🙁

Haven’t woken up to this many people talking about Haliburton since the second Bush administration.

this is like drake and kendrick lamar but they're both drake
