Today’s joy: I had dinner at The Sausage Factory and dessert at Orphan Andy’s in The Castro with the eldest, his girlfriend, and one of his oldest friends (since middle school). A totally delightful Friday night

Wrote this piece for Harpers Bazaar about the life, legacy, and hate-induced murder of Jonathan Joss through the eyes of being a Two-Spirit Native person this Pride. I hope you take a read. For Him. For all of us. 🪶

Things are terrible, it’s true. But your gifts have never been more necessary. Do the thing. Bring the love.

Today’s joy: Getting the best tacos in Oakland for Father’s Day. The place is full of balloons and signs for the day

In honour of Joy Division's iconic album Unknown Pleasures being released on this day in 1979, I'm again sharing one of my favourite ever video clips (Peanuts vs Joy Division dance party)...

With the success of SINNERS there's been a lot of discussion about the connection between the black community and the Chinese shopkeepers (including some denial that it could have existed). Here's a great article on the topic. via @violetblue.bsky.social www.smithsonianmag.com/history/the-...

This is me at a bookstore, selling My Heart is a Chainsaw to the clerks.

The new Pulp album dropped about 40 minutes ago. And just when I thought today couldn’t get any better

What an extraordinary, beautiful thing. Sometimes the only sensible response to scientific discovery is wonderment and awe.

The pickles in the recipe and the comments are wrong. The correct pickle is my Grandma Croft’s homemade pickle—brilliant green, sweet, made with cloves. And then the sandwich should be cut in the shape of a house. All the other PB&P sandwiches are just imitating

TFW you find yourself in a situation only Talking Heads can sorta make sense of.

Saw Sinners this morning. We waited for an IMAX showing in San Francisco and it was worth it. The film is stunning and the soundtrack is fabulous. And I can’t wait to see it again and again.

I’ve taken to crying while doing dishes. I’m not a cryer, but life is life-ing (as it is for us all). It’s been useful—time to think, ponder, feel, let it out, and once the dishes are done, the tears dry. My biggest concern is I’ll develop an association that may have consequences later on.

Husband: I really want to read more Dickens. I’ve only ever read Great Expectations and that was a long time ago. *pulls out The Tommyknockers* 💀

Watching Carl Sagan’s introduction to the Cosmos TV series. It’s giving me chills. Same section from the book: “In the last few millennia we have made the most astonishing and unexpected discoveries about the Cosmos and our place within it…

I’m young Gen X, which means I’m of the age where I think about Towanda a lot.

Thank you to my dear subconscious chum (MDSC) who provided a new episode of Miranda last night. Sadly, there was no galloping.

Today’s LOL: A friend who learned operant conditioning at Harvard while Skinner was there is using his mad skillz to train his cat use an exercise wheel.

They can also meet accessibility needs. For one example, my mother who is blind primarily uses a microwave to cook and has throughout most of her adulthood.

Today’s joy: Husband made onion rings as part of dinner and they were amazing.

Great Blue Heron in loooooooong mode #birds 🌿

Today’s joy: BBC 6 playing a ton of Kate Bush, including at least one old interview.

Today’s joy: An old, old friend I haven’t talked to for a while called and asked for help. The communities we build, no matter how long ago, don’t have to end.

That was a solid earthquake!

Elon Musk is a medieval dickweed killing democracy but thankfully @alexwinter.com is still willing to fight for the future with the most triumphant philosophy of Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989): Be excellent to each other and party on, dudes vaughnjoy.substack.com/p/youre-kill...

Keith Richards is one thing but it's way more medically miraculous to me that every founding member of motley crüe is still alive

Today’s joy: Using knowledge obtained in my younger years to adapt to current circumstances. Most immediately, there’s a lot of things that can replace eggs in baked goods.

We live on a beautiful planet. Keep on.

Today’s joy: Watching Strange Darling instead of any live broadcasts that might be happening tonight.

I wrote about the very violent, very public detention of a woman for interrupting a speaker at the Kootenai County Republican’s town hall on Saturday. In Idaho, the lines between Republican politics and political violence are thinner than they are in some places; this is a terrifying escalation.

Today’s joy: Watched Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy tonight. And it was delightful. But the biggest joy was realizing all the Bridget Jones films are different comedy sub-genres that work as a cohesive whole because the characters are generally consistent throughout

UPDATE: The Coeur d’Alene Press spoke with the woman who was dragged out of a town hall for heckling legislators, confirmed which security firm worked the event and spoke with Kootenai County Sheriff Bob Norris and Coeur d’Alene Police Chief Lee White about the events.

Haskell Indian Nations University & Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute each lost >24% of staff in the past week, due to EO 14210 and the White House memo on hiring freezes. It’s interfering with courses, programs, student support services and the higher education STUDENTS PAID FOR.

Friends, I need y'all to reach out to your representatives and do some advocacy for Tribal College students 🙏 Please see the announcement below. NIEA and AIHEC are also engaging in this Call to Action! Please share.

I have hit that age where a trailer for Bridget Jones Mad About the Boy or an SNL skit with Laraine Newman and Pete Davidson makes me cry.
