I’m trying to convey the sense I had in Rome that even the birds live between layers of history. Based on photos I took in churches around the city and on the Palatine. Work in progress. #BirdArt

Does anyone know what this downy woodpecker is doing? Moments before, he had brought green inchworms for his chicks (I could hear them inside the tree); he went into the tree, gave them their food, and came out with this. Housecleaning? #Birds

Finally! I keep hearing black-throated green warblers but never seeing one. Today I managed to get a photo :) #birds

“Nostalgia”. Coloured pencil on cotton paper. #BirdArt

My Lyra got an award :)

I decided to draw a whimsical picture based on some photos I took earlier this month in Oxford, UK (specifically, in Magdalen college cloister and a friend’s back garden). I used to think that the best way to relax was to draw wood. I was wrong: it is old stone! #BirdArt

A closeup photo of my favourite fountain in Rome. #WorldTurtleDay

I heard this blue jay mimic a red-tailed hawk so well that it deceived the Merlin app! #birds

Last week a man told me that I don’t need a long lens to photograph birds; all I need to do is walk up to the bird to get a better shot. Well, I tried it today … and darn and blast, the bird flew away 🤷‍♀️

Red-breasted nuthatch. Coloured pencil on cotton paper. I used several of my own photos for reference but want to thank Linda MacMillan for the use of her nuthatch photo which gave me details that mine lacked! #Birds #SciArt #WildlifeArt

I have to listen to slow music when drawing feathers; precision is hard! But so far I’m pleased with this little nuthatch :) I’m using a handful of photos as reference (one is seldom enough) and want to thank Linda MacMillan for the use of one of hers. #Birds #SciArt

I feel muted relief today. Some losses, but, oh, the wins! 🤗 Congratulations, most of all, to @mark-carney.bsky.social. I am immensely glad that you’ll be at the helm. Hard work ahead, but we can do it 🇨🇦💪🇨🇦 #elxn2025

We have a cool Prime Minister🤣 watch

Election Day is here! Vote for Canada 🍁

Do you know where to vote tomorrow? This website is the place to go for that information: #cdnpoli www.elections.ca/home.aspx

I haven’t finished the tree, yet, but I can’t wait: I started on the bird today. It’s not as if there’s a rule book out there, waiting to throw itself at my head. Live a little 😄 #WorkInProgress #SciArt #birds

Election Day approaches! Canadians who didn't vote in the advance polls will be able to cast their votes on April 28th. (I voted early because I couldn't wait.)

I figure I have about one or two weeks, at most, to learn how to photograph hawks in flight before the leaves come in and obscure everything. Hawk-flying-through-trees is a tough subject! #birds #BirdPhotography

There is something immensely satisfying about seeing a pine warbler in a pine tree :) #birds
