The sole criteria I will be voting on in the 2028 primary is which candidate credibly promises to put the largest number of Trump officials in prison. I do not care about any of their other policies.

Congress does not function, it's the root cause of much that is wrong with our politics, and that is partly because of poor design but also because members have been shirking responsibility for decades now

not the main issue here but i'd really appreciate it if democratic politicians spoke out in support of big-city life and culture with the same energy and reverence that all politicians have for small towns los angeles is "real america" and so are all the other big cities the president hates

this is a genuinely unsettling thing to see an NYT writer say. it's essentially an uncontested fact that in the social media era, large majorities of people don't read past the headline.

it's pretty damning when it's all laid out like this www.usatoday.com/story/opinio...

happy for Khalil of course but i must say, "lawful permanent resident not charged with any crimes, imprisoned by president's stormtroopers for having forbidden opinions about US-abetted genocide, briefly allowed to touch his child" is a hell of a thing to find oneself feeling joy and relief about

This is—it bears repeating—ethnic cleansing and a war crime. It feels utterly pointless to say, and roughly equivalent to screaming into the void, but the United States should not be supporting or providing any aid to a state that has ethnic cleansing as a policy position.

First of all, MAGA Murder Budget is great. Second, asking people which messages would be most persuasive to them is worse than useless. Human beings are terrible at reporting why they believe things!

My theory of Trumpism is that nobody knows how things work. They think immigration is still the Ellis Island system. They think China owns the national debt. They think the economy was good in 2019 because the president did Deals. And right-wing media actively lies to them about all of these things.

I'm becoming a RETVRN guy but for late 1800s political party organization

In general, the idea that creating an egalitarian, democratic society might require the creation of a heirarchical, disciplined organization in order to achieve that end is a long-standing tension in leftist thought and one that seems to have no occurred to the American left at all.

The cement king of Sioux City who drives a brand new F-350 and has two vacation houses in Florida isn't an elite but a grad student with $200,000 in debt and a nose ring is, that's how this works.

It is truly amazing how little scrutiny Stephen Miller gets—not because he’s an architect of Trumpism; that gives him too much credit. But because he is openly the most bigoted and malicious person there and he behaves and sounds like a petulant child.
