I'm sorry but the largest protest of my lifetime is not the 7th or 8th biggest news story in the country behind "what does Gen Z want from Instagram?" This shit is humiliating. Rearrange your layout to meet this moment. Omitting the thing happening in every American city is malpractice.

New study alert, just out in SER! 🚨 What really drives gendered occupational choices among adolescents? ➡️It might not be workplace characteristics (e.g., salary), but skill requirements. academic.oup.com/ser/advance-... @sasemeeting.bsky.social, @snsf.ch,‬ @unibe.ch ern.bsky.social, @unisg.ch

There's research on this by Mona Lee Crook and Juliana Restrepo Sanin, among others. It's not just a hunch - it's true.

No No Kings for us. Traveling from DC to home *right now* and we’ve simultaneously missed the Trump parade here and the protest events at home.

Curated amnesia: the historical tables for the federal budget have disappeared from the OMB website: www.whitehouse.gov/omb/informat...

NO KINGS INCLUDES KINGS OF LEON!!!!!

“If not gestapo, why gestapo shaped?”

Learn who Melissa Hortman was, and what was taken from us.

It is difficult to imagine any circumstances in which the assassination of one democratic lawmaker and the attempted assassination of another is not fascist violence, calculated to suppress political resistance to a fascist project. At this point I am not going to try.

How does one call a political movement that assassinates its opponents to take control of the state?

Here’s @lkfazio.bsky.social doing a discussion for a disinformation symposium at @sarmac2025.bsky.social. She talked about the attacks on science and education. Lisa is a leader in standing up for science. Here she is talking about what we can do. For the no kings day, from our conference overseas.

A reminder that rates of violent and non-violent crime rates are substantially lower than for native born Americans. In a sign of assimilation, second generation criminality rises to the level of native born. www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/...

Just out in PLoS ONE: Usually, resting with one's eyes closed after learning improves memory. We thought people with #ADHD might show less memory benefit from rest. We were wrong! But some interesting descriptive data and exploratory analysis, we hope you read it. 😁 #psychscisky #neuroskyence

Good point here from Stanley: lack of GOP representation occurs in fields beyond humanities and social science. It's not about universities abandoning the GOP, but the GOP divorcing itself from science.

New: The White House wants you to laugh at its mass-deportation memes. The Trump admin is using dark jokes, hype videos and personal jabs to promote its immigration policy. A former MAGA organizer is disturbed by how far they've gone: "This is not reality TV. It’s actual reality" wapo.st/3ZT5FNl

This is everywhere. Every academic institution I know is held together by some exhausted woman in her early 40's who waits until the old white male professors have finished their vague rants and says, "alright, so concretely can I propose the following next steps..." She makes half their salary.

Please stop posting about Obama like he was some sort of antipode to our present situation. He should have done far more when the economic world was crumbling to shore up our defenses against democratic erosion, to ease our stressed pocketbooks, and to show a more moral side to armed engagement.

Super excited for the inaugural TARMAC symposium (Teaching of Applied Research in Memory and Cognition) #sarmac2025 First is Nicole Sugden on how she uses reflective e-portfolios as an assessment tool. 1/

Here are three graphs showing nine sets of relationship between sets of yearly death rates from 1979 through 2023. The nine comes from death rates for age group. 0-19, 20-64, and 65+ plotted by three measures of Evangelism. See moire under ALT. 🧪💡☠️ #Sociology #Population #Demography

If I were a House Democrat, I would not vote to expand mandatory minimum sentences at any point, but especially not when Trump is ramping up lawless overpolicing. But 104 House Democrats did just that yesterday. jonathancohn.medium.com/half-the-hou...

my latest, in Trends in Cognitive Sciences this review lays out what I think the fundamental specializations are for music perception in humans, namely, the hierarchical processing of pitch and rhythm or, how our minds turn vibrating air into music authors.elsevier.com/a/1lG9G_V1r-...

Ever wonder if people can change? New work by Jinseok Chun & Michael North show moral fixedness (beliefs that moral traits change less than competence or warmth) really is fixed! We assume morality reflects a person's core more than other traits!

In ethics we used to call situations like this a “thought experiment”

From a 2004 Yad Vashem Righteous Among the Nations speech. Apparently in Romania - as we see in so many places (especially the US?) - only the rural people are real and genuine and exemplify the soul of the nation’s people.

also it's a terrible act across the board and Democrats should stop selling out to the crypto lobby

Lest you think this is some kind of unprecedented lunacy, "We are here to liberate this place from socialism and the burden of its elected leadership" is exactly what the US said about the USSR, Greece, Cuba, Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, Chile, Yugoslavia, Nicaragua, Grenada, Venezuela, etc., etc.

So Israel is currently engaged in active military operations against the recognized governments of Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, and now Iran?

Late '92/early '93 - Dylan phase? Just plain unkempt? Forging a bombing plot?

This graph about faculty ideology over time is going viral over on X. But there are some reasons for pause about its conclusions. [Thread]

I called both my Senators to ask them to deny unanimous consent for all Senate business and I called my Congresswoman to ask her to introduce articles of impeachment against Noem.
