The university is always under dire financial stress until it's time to make up a new guy, like Chief Transformation Officer

We all got work to do

Bill Clinton please endorse my enemies

Congratulations to Zohran Mamdani on being one step closer to having his life threatened by the NYPD for proposing a 2% cut in overtime

not doing the official thing and this is impossible but... BEST IN SHOW IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE ROYAL TENENBAUMS 25TH HOUR THE GLEANERS AND I BPM MINDING THE GAP INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS DICK JOHNSON IS DEAD AFTERSUN

I just got back from a hot but not unbearable run made possible by my neighborhood's tree canopy. It's NW Philly's best characteristic

When reactionaries rail about “crime” or especially “urban crime” what they actually mean is visible poverty (unhoused people) and neoliberal rot (vacant storefronts). Actual crime might literally be at its lowest point, ever.

This is incredibly beautiful storytelling.

i have to believe that players wearing tracking vests during every game and every training session at least subconsciously sends the message that they can never *not* be going all-out. you'd think it'd also provide data for "load management" but revealingly that only ever happens for superstars

15 years ago today, may as well have been a century www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbn3...

think Ganz is right here: "The politics of national despair needs figures like Cuomo to become the default setting of American politics. Then figures like Trump can present themselves as alternatives. They represent almost identical brands of sleaze and corruption."

"Avellaneda Delgado lived most of the last 40 years in the US, raising a large family...and never gaining legal immigration status. He was arrested in Statenville, Georgia on 9 April due to a parole violation – and died on 5 May in the back of a van" www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

it rules, the library is amazing

It's a great film but it was an profoundly unwise choice to take my high school girlfriend to see EYES WIDE SHUT

not saying anything new here but we really ought to have reckoned with our entire political and media establishment being the same people who enthusiastically supported the invasion of iraq!

I'd suggest there's been a lot of learning. no one actually responsible ever faced meaningful consequences so they learned they could get away with it. meanwhile lots of other people learned those responsible have to be stopped, but haven't yet figured out how to do so.

"I gotta say protect trans youth. I gotta say fuck ICE. And with my whole fucking chest, I gotta say free Palestine. Anybody watching at home, anybody walking by, you wanna know who said it, you tell em it's the mother fucking Wonder Years from Philadelphia." youtu.be/xIj2Ozlp1y8?...

Short thread, says it truly

a dream, a vision

Good blog on a hilariously bad and dishonest stat. Nice little grace note of an ICE chud taking issue with being asked about this during National Police Appreciation Week.

This should be the final word on the subway and the wimps who are afraid of it www.hamiltonnolan.com/p/the-subway...

The transgender rights movement did not "bet on SCOTUS." Transgender people are just people who are trying to live their lives in peace and happiness and the structures of power, including the legal system up to SCOTUS and media up to the NY Times, have chosen to abuse them for their own ends.

Bush with the lowest unfavorables...

Juventus team wheeled into White House with Infantino standing behind Trump as he’s asked questions about terrifying situation related to Iran feels like a new, new low. Even for him. Why put them in this situation? — Do you think the regime there could fall? “Sure, anything could happen.”

Every year that passes, I come to better appreciate just how traumatic members of the US elite find it to be yelled at by progressive young people. It is *vastly* more upsetting to them than being yelled at by reactionaries. They warp their entire identities & ideologies around it!

Cannot deny that this sucks but here's the thing: We're not going anywhere. I'm still trans, I'm still here. Even if the government wants me to die, there are millions of people who want to help me live. If you're closeted or questioning and reading this, millions of people want to help you live.

I’m having a very hard time with all of the daily cruelty

... ..... Isn't his son like 30?

I still can't get past the idea that people in America are now supposed to accept that this is a valid form of law enforcement and just assume it's fine when random dudes in groups with face-coverings, no ID, no warrant, & no uniform grab people off the street and force them into unmarked vehicles

if i can be y’all’s dad for a second: one of the most important things I’ve learned is that acquiring a skill is literally uncomfortable that awful moment where you feel confused and stupid and embarrassed? it means you’re about to learn something. and it’s *mandatory* if you want to get better

not just 'manage' but 'prefer'! i have students produce a syllabus by consensus in one course, & a lot of them *hate* the process of deciding, find it tiresome to weigh others' interests, seek to avoid all conflict and difference entirely, just want orders, let's get this over with, etc.

This is me laughing and crying in “I remember reading this headline in 2003 and laughing and crying”

this is my state rep and this is a very very good thing

On this date in 1918 Eugene Debs gave one of his most famous speeches, one that would see him imprisoned. https://welcometohellworld.com/you-who-have-your-lives-to-lose/

I think a lot of the terror of the modern age can be understood by the fact that the Internet accelerated the development of the worst type of person, the "Anti-Intellectual Nerd."
