Duckworth to Hegseth: "You are blowing through money like my fellow cadets and I did in our first liberty after basic camp. Luckily I didn't end up with a questionable tattoo ... you're just an unqualified yes man who can't tell the president how to keep Americans safe."

Performative contempt of Congress, literally and actionably

BREAKING: SCOTUS upholds Tennessee's ban on trans minors' gender-affirming medical care. The 6-3 decision from Chief Justice John Roberts, issued along partisan lines, will serve to empower those seeking to discriminate against transgender people. New, at Law Dork:

Completely illegally!

Three things @rasjbaraka.bsky.social and @bradlander.bsky.social have in common: 1) Both are suing Kristi Noem 2) Her goons conducted premeditated arrest of them 3) Before an election www.emptywheel.net/2025/06/18/r...

Just asked SDNY if they were opening an election interference investigation against the people who arrested @bradlander.bsky.social yesterday, given Emil Bove's representation that such a thing would be election interference. Nicholas Biase declined to comment.

They need to show up with the National Guard instead of standing there with their dicks in their hands.

Just days ago, Brad Lander called me to interpret for an Arabic-speaking asylee whose case was approved, yet ICE was still harassing him inside the building. Brad personally escorted him out to safety. He does this kind of work quietly, every day.

Gene Sperling is on the money here www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202... It is very bad news for our economy if businesses think they can't trust our government because it is led by a clown who can do anything he wants whenever he wants.

Not an original point but worth saying again - there is not a single element in this picture that identifies any of these folks as law enforcement agents. No badges, no uniforms, no vests. Out of context it just looks like a bunch of random guys are kidnapping a mayoral candidate.

This is functionally indistinguishable from a declaration of war, lacking solely the Constitutional step of it coming from the branch that actually has the legal power to declare war

“Hey, what if we took a mercurial semi-demented narcissist and pathological liar and developed a foreign policy based on having to validate whatever he said off the top of his head?”

"Trump's message is plain. If you commit violence in his cause, he will have your back...America in 2025 is making political murder easier. This is a choice, not fate." My column. www.ft.com/content/e172...

NYC Comptroller Brad Lander was just arrested by Trump’s ICE agents because he asked to see a judicial warrant. This is fascism and all New Yorkers must speak in one voice. Release him now.

In her new book “Bad Company,” journalist Megan Greenwell chronicles how private equity upended industries from health care to local news—and the ways workers are fighting back. www.wired.com/story/megan-...

ICE just arrested Brad Lander, the NYC Comptroller and one of the leading candidates for Mayor, without grounds. He was conducting routine immigration court work, escorting individuals from hearings. He asked ICE for their warrant - well within his legal rights. This is political intimidation.

This photo. ICE is a gang.

We’re announcing new legislation — the No Secret Police Act (SB 627) — to ban local/state/federal law enforcement, w/ some exceptions, from covering their faces when interacting w/ the public & require them to wear identifying info. The secret police behavior we’re seeing destroys trust & must end🧵

Democratic senators need to stop pretending that GOP senators are their “good friends across the aisle” and realize many of them are just lying sociopaths who are actively fanning the flames of violence against them.

It’s not just Mike Lee — Bernie Moreno is pretending that a registered Republican evangelical anti-abortion Trump voter who assassinated a Democrat and had more on his hit list is a representative of “the extreme left”

I count 49 news headlines on the NYT mobile app home page right now, not including opinion, sports or cooking. None of them are about the massive protests yesterday.

When I tell you Los Angeles is an occupied city/county, this is what I mean… Yesterday, ICE agents showed up to a regular Saturday swap meet with armed Marines and a military helicopter overhead, like it’s a fucking war zone.

Impeachment proceedings today

I would love to see a 50-state campaign to pass free school lunch and anti-gun measures in tribute.

As a 52-year-old, I grew up with domestic right wing terrorist organizations threatening violence daily, and blowing up buildings and killing people periodically, throughout my whole political life: it was the anti-abortion movement.

scholar of partisan violence/Latin American Dirty Wars here: there is nothing to distinguish this from how people were taken in Argentina, Guatemala, Chile, etc, except that it's all on camera

How many reporters are currently working on tell-all exposés about their own organization, detailing all the acts of cowardice of their editors and publishers? I won’t ever buy your book about Sleepy Joe Biden, but I’d absolutely devour a book about the internal collapse of the NYT or CNN.

The owner of Twitter sends out 100 right wing propaganda tweets every single day and the algorithm is set up so that every single person on Twitter has to see every single one of these tweets. Now here’s another piece about Blue Sky’s ideological diversity problem.

The Tea Party protests in April 2009 had about a third of a million people involved, and the political media treated it like a game changer for the Obama presidency. The No Kings rallies were AT LEAST ten times bigger than the Tea Party protests. Will the press keep pretending Trump is popular?

This is serious, rigorous analysis and it should change the way the media has been covering these protests. These were, in the aggregate, *massive.*

Thank you for your attention to this matter! #NoKings

i'm surprised by how low energy and farcical that whole military parade situation was. I was expecting Moscow 1945 and we got Spirit Halloween instead.

This was the Four Seasons Total Landscaping of military parades.

Trump keeps it succinct, that thing he’s known to do when something goes really well for him.

Like South Africa under apartheid, we are ruled by a minority regime that has no claim to popular support & increasingly doesn’t even pretend to

I hope some of you actually take some joy in these pathetic images of this ridiculous and now boring military parade. It's a fiasco and everyone gets to point and laugh. More hard days ahead but for today enjoy.

Selected comments from the NY POST CHAT for the Trump Micropenis Parade: * "I've seen more people at a kindergarten parade" * "What an epic fail" * "The UFC is sponsoring federal events now?" * "Okay this is getting sad now" * "Criiiiiinge" * "There is no one there" * "This is such a boring parade"

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. apparently embraces the outdated "miasma theory" of disease instead of the widely accept "germ theory" of disease, which may help explain some of the actions he's been taking.

this sentence should appear in every story about him

Trump looking absolutely inconsolable at his fascist-themed 79th birthday party which no one turned up to other than those who had to because he's their boss.

I'm sorry but the largest protest of my lifetime is not the 7th or 8th biggest news story in the country behind "what does Gen Z want from Instagram?" This shit is humiliating. Rearrange your layout to meet this moment. Omitting the thing happening in every American city is malpractice.

One of my friends who lives near LA participated in some of these and said it's DEEPLY SATISFYING and she highly recommends it.
