Copenhagen is expected to receive 30% more rainfall by the end of the century. The city is responding with a massive long-term adaptation plan. https://n.pr/4dYZOvs

OTD in 1941 Soviets started forcibly deporting 50,000 of the Baltic people we had ‘liberated from fascism’. 60% died. 75% were women & kids Imagine mass deportations happening today..

Analysis of fossil corals from the Indian Ocean indicates that past periods of warming were marked by abrupt, steep sea level rises, suggesting future increases could exceed current projections. doi.org/g9p86k

Evidence indicates that ocean acidification has surpassed the planetary boundary in significant portions of surface and subsurface waters, with impacts observed since at least five years ago. doi.org/g9p86t

🐙🌿🐍🐛 Nope, it's not a snake - it's the caterpillar of a sphinx moth (Hemeroplanes sp.)., found by our guides in Corcovado Natl. Park., Costa Rica. Normally the caterpillars blend with the vegetation, but if disturbed they twist their head upside down to reveal a "snake," and even wave around to--

In the absence of global climate mitigation, we project a regime shift to a world dominated by compound hazards or impacts. In our new paper by Gabriele Messori, we find that compound hazard occurrences will become the norm in many regions under RCP6.0 agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/...

“There was no trauma to speak of until that very last tour in ’22. He [Brian Wilson] kind of went silent and began to suffer the effects of long-term COVID, I was told, so I think that was a turning point for him. He became detached.” #LongCovid variety.com/2025/music/n...

Many are asking why bird flu has suddenly disappeared from the headlines. The truth is, it hasn’t gone anywhere. According to my CDC sources, H5N1 is spreading especially among symptomatic farm workers.

Our #CopernicusAtmosphere aerosol optical depth forecast initialised on 11 June showed a complex mixture of aerosols over Europe in recent days with smoke transport from Canadian wildfires interspersed with a plume of Saharan dust. See the latest charts at atmosphere.copernicus.eu/charts/packa...

Satellite data show that climate models predicting low warming from greenhouse gases do not match observations, suggesting future warming may be greater than previously estimated without further emission cuts.

Top of my list of missing native species we should be looking at reintroducing to Ireland? Lynx!! • Never attack people • Rarely attack livestock • Aren't pack animals • Help regulate deer • Help regulate smaller predators, like fox • Are a huge tourist draw • Are just GORGEOUS!!

Nice analysis of the longest phenological record available, 1200+ years of cherry blossom (Sakura) in Kyoto. Showing blossom times have been shifting for 137 years in response to warming

Finally… I’ve been waiting for someone to cover this story. So sad. Climate[dot]gov has always been one of my favorite go-to resources to share.

Lemme 'splain all the exciting news that came out of the high stakes US-China trade talks, and their exciting new agreement to agree on an old agreement.

What can 🧬 from 👻🦇💩 tell us about this Vulnerable species in the Pilbara? They generally have high gene flow but also show restricted dispersal for females within 10-20 km from the roost. Read the paper to find out more academic.oup.com/jhered/advan...

May 2025 breaks an unprecedented long sequence of months over 1.5ºC above pre-industrial 🌡️ May 2025 was the second warmest May globally 📈 May 2025 was 1.40°C above the estimated 1850-1900 average 🌊 SSTs were the 2nd highest on record for May, with an extreme marine heatwave in the North Atlantic

A day of meetings, but managed to snag an hour here and there to work on the big* paper on the evolution of mistletoe specialist frugivores. Discussion really taking shape—now I know what I want to say, the rest will be easy peasy squeeze the lemon. *not very big, but first treatment since 1991

We track this rather closely. Why? It's simple really. As we move into the era of destabilised physical environments, location independence is becoming increasingly important to avoid business disruption. Learning the skill to work from anywhere is an adaptation AND emission mitigation strategy!

Computer simulations suggest Neanderthals likely migrated from Eastern Europe to Siberia in under 2,000 years, following river valleys during warmer periods and interacting with other ancient human groups. doi.org/g9pspg

Saw today for the first time a seriously brilliant way to cut wildlife roadkill: virtual fencing! These devices, installed every 25m for $10K km warn wildlife by detecting approaching vehicles and emitting a flashing light and a beep. Has cut deaths by 90%! #WildOz www.abc.net.au/news/2025-06...

Your 'moment of doom' for June 7, 2025 ~ The End of Ice “The [satellites] are up there and functioning,” says Walt Meier, a remote-sensing scientist at the U.S. National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC). “But we’re not getting all the data anymore, at least regularly.”

I'm blown away by this review in The American Scholar. It likens THEY POISONED THE WORLD to Rachel Carson's SILENT SPRING, which ignited the modern environmental movement, and goes on to call my book a "masterly exposé" & "critical reading for us all." #PFAS theamericanscholar.org/sticking-wit...

With my forecast for May CO2 of 430.51 ppm, here's a look at the gain (in ppm) between yearly maximums, where for each year I take the maximum CO2 for that year and subtract the maximum CO2 from the previous year. With a gain of 3.60 ppm, 2025 came in second to 2016, which had a gain of 3.75 ppm.

When I turned 40 I made a specific effort to always reach out for the rail on the stairs. Here at 56 it's now entirely automatic, and has absolutely and literally saved my ass several times.
