We're at Navy Pier today telling the CPM board to keep their promise of finding non-labor cuts to save public media and the people who make it. We’ve already seen so many talented colleagues let go. We say no more.

To protect public media we need more journalists in our newsroom — not fewer. #ProtectMyPublicMedia

Today Chicago Public Media is launching a pledge drive asking for donations to protect public media from threats to independent journalism. With more buyouts this week and potential layoffs as soon as next week, we want CPM to do its part by finding non-labor cuts and creative revenue solutions.

Two days after Trump was elected again, Amy Lendian and her wife no longer felt safe in Florida. They're among a growing crowd of trans folks fleeing to states like IL amid a wave of federal and state anti-trans laws — w/ @unclosetedmedia.bsky.social chicago.suntimes.com/lgbtq/2025/0...

the sun-times guild (@cstguild.bsky.social) is now on bluesky! we’re still facing more buyouts and anticipate possible layoffs could start as soon as next week — so follow us for updates as we call on CPM management to keep their promise of finding non-labor cuts to keep our newsroom intact.

i'm very proud to be a memeber of @cstguild.bsky.social. I'm not quite as proud of the buyouts and threats of layoffs that Chicago Public Media has been holding over our heads.

I’ve lost seven incredible @cstguild.bsky.social colleagues, and I’ll soon lose more. I’m glad they get to walk away on their own, but I’m sick of the talent drain and I’m worried about what's next. Our nonprofit leaders can protect public media by investing in our newsroom, not by shrinking it.

We’re the Chicago Sun-Times Guild, a union that’s been around for decades to protect the future of the Sun-Times newsroom and our dozens of members who have kept it running. We’ve already seen many colleagues head out the door in the past few weeks. And we’re worried that more could soon follow.
