So. The reason it’s bad for ICE and the police to work together is not simply ‘fuck ICE’- although that’s a good big one.

Hot commie summers melt ice. We deserve.

Zohran Mamdani secured a landslide victory in the New York City mayoral primary despite media and his opposition being intent on trying to drum up controversy over his views on Israel and Palestine, even to the point of sweeping aside candidates’ stances on issues that affect the city.

It’s hard to overstate how angry rank and file Dems are at the Dem establishment right now. And if I were a self-preservationist incumbent I would take note.

A story that got less attention was the incredibly cynical primary of my amazing Councilwoman—the first Muslim woman ever elected to the NYC Council—by a billionaire, corporate-backed candidate also lobbing gross accusations of antisemitism. Anyway, the challenger got trounced. Hell yea.

That’s my congresswoman

Mask off, hood on.

It’s always heartwarming when a good candidate beats an enormous sack of cash.

Even in the wake of Citizens United, there *is* a point at which a vastly bigger paid media war chest does not necessarily correlate with winning. That is something worth remembering and studying about tonight and the Wisconsin state supreme court race.

Yes, please.

It’s almost like you don’t want a sexual harassing elderly uncharismatic man who was already told to step down in disgrace and who is endorsed by Laura Loomer and funded by the same billionaires funding Trump to be your mayor and to that I say PURITY POLITICS

Explains Stephen Miller's motivation to arrest 3,000 people a day... "Miller owns between $100,000 and $250,000 worth of stock in Palantir... that has a several lucrative contracts with ICE to track data and conduct surveillance on undocumented immigrants" By @rollingstone.com

8.258 million. Over 150 countries represented. Over 300 languages. That’s the most real America can get.

The reactionary-centrists that backed Cuomo & demagogued Mamdani—unwittingly, they created a referendum on their own power & preeminence. Now they have their answer. I'm talking about individuals & institutions here. Put them all out to pasture.

"Mamdani doesn't have enough experience." Folks... let's be fucking real. The last four NYC Mayors were Eric Adams, Bill de Blasio, Michael Bloomberg, and Rudy Giuliani. If you're going with the experience critique here, it's time to take a nap and try again tomorrow.

I hope people in this city NEVER forget what these bastards did. It was disgusting.

You can't doxx a govt employee. If I, an employee of the State of Illinois, can have my salary publicly listed and my emails FOIA'd, then these jerks can show their faces.

Who could have possibly predicted this entirely-unsurprising outcome?

💯

please endorse Rahm if he runs for pres, Bill

It’s also a long term smart move for him politically. In addition to earning him a staunch ally in the presumptive mayor, progressives in NY state will be ride or die for him for whatever he runs for next

And literally DOZENS of fliers in the mail.

Good. And other Democrats should be grateful for the lifeline.

Look, just because we beat Cuomo tonight doesn't mean this is time to stop punching him in the junk.

the national Democratic Party will absorb this result, take a long look in the mirror, and find a way to run Andrew Cuomo for President

Genuinely what is the justification here

damn the Clintons fucking suck at politics

Can we all give #BradLander a big hand for throwing himself on the tracks in front of the Cuomo train, because it's starting to look like it worked.

Now watch the Dems follow the clear popularity of this candidate and capitalize by doing everything they can to sink him and keep him out of office

Now might be the time to put a bug in Lander's ear about running for governor. Y'all might be able to pack Hochul up too.

Fuck Andrew Cuomo 🌝

Who could have guess a guy who campaigned on kitchen table issues, social progressivism, and anti-apartheid turned out to be more likable than the disgraced, withered sex ghoul who kills grandmas?

the more i think about this the more i think that his campaign was a showcase for how centrists *say* they want democrats to campaign. the issue is that what this looks like varies from place to place. i would not expect mamdani to be able to win in virginia, but a mamdani-style campaign could!

Imagine if the Democratic Party actually helped Zohran instead of trying to kneecap him at every step. A better party is immediately possible if they stop shoving money into the anti-trans combination Racism Dial/Money Toilet and instead get behind candidates people actually want.

Brad Lander: "I also need to thank some of the most important people in my life and on this campaign—I mean, of course, the NYT editorial board. Just kidding, of course: I love Wordle and Connections, but I really urge the Times to cancel their new feature 'Editorial Riddles.' No one likes those."

Zohran Mamdani wins the first round of the NYC Democratic mayoral election Given his lead, we're almost guaranteed to see Mamdani win on the final ballot

Got my COVID booster yesterday. The CVS I went to seemed shocked, like I had just asked for Dr. Creepy's Heroin and Gin Syrup for Children. "I...think we have that. Do we have that? Oh wait, we have that!"

This is great stuff. Walking Manhattan MAKES SENSE. We are New Yorkers. We walk everywhere. We are out. The city changes from block to block. Meeting people MATTERS. I am voting tomorrow, and I'm voting Zohran.

New Yorkers going out in 700 degree heat out of their sheer hate of Cuomo and this once in a lifetime chance of getting a non-clown mayor.

The person in front of me had specifically registered by the deadline to be prepared to vote today. His name was not registered. He had to step to the side to fill out an affidavit ballot. They had been seeing it all morning.

i believe in you, new york. you can do this. you can have functional grocery stores. you can have trash cans. you can (someday) have heating systems that wouldn't make the congo or boston cringe. you *can* elect mamdani and then despise him within a month because you are france with shittier pizza

remember when SpaceX was the well-run Musk company

Wowza that was a good question

Hard to get a better summary of where we are than this: 60% of Democratic congresspeople think that Donald Trump should remain president.

If your law is good when there are good people in office, but dangerous when there are bad people in office, your law is bad.
