Shameless self-promotion continues...🙃 You might find this #fern book in your local bookstores! mailchi.mp/btiscience/f...

📜 Active transport enables protein condensation in cells 🧑‍🔬 Gaurav Chauhan, Edward G. Wilkinson, @luciastrader.bsky.social, et al. 📔 Science Advances 🔗 www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... #️⃣ #PlantScience #PlantPhysiology #PlantCellBiology #Phytohormones #Auxin

If you want to learn more about auxin, I a proud to present our latest review, hot of the press: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40389696/ Happy reading #auxin 🎉😀

Finally updating some lab RNA-seq data to the new v7 moss genome, and—holy moly—my new little M4 Mac mini exceeded expectations. It aligned 240M reads in 12 minutes. 4x faster than 4-core Intel with more memory!

It is out! CLAVATA in moss: not only meristems! Big thanks to @jillharrison.bsky.social , @ilichenmoss2.bsky.social and @newphyt.bsky.social

The second new paper from the Estelle lab out this week describes the phenotype of moss lines lacking all seven Class-A ARFs (Activating ARFs) and was lead former postdoc Carlisle Bascom, Jr. academic.oup.com/jxb/advance-...

The Estelle lab has a couple new papers out now. The first is work by current and former postdocs, Zhaonan Ban and Yueh-Ju Hou, describing auxin-independant degradation of a subset of Aux/IAA proteins. academic.oup.com/plphys/artic...

Our most recent preprint. We identified a unique protein with NAT and MPK domains which is needed for proper development in Physcomitrium.

Grateful to share that our study on "The genetic architecture of cell type–specific cis regulation in maize" is now published in @science.org! Huge thank you to all co-authors and the 4 tough, but fair, reviewers who all helped to improve the study 🌽🧬 www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

My local news podcast had some plant biology news today, with @lmueller.bsky.social talking about their new paper (at ~10:20) www.kpbs.org/podcasts/san...

Yikes, the number of canceled UCSD student F-1 visas is up to 36! ucsdguardian.org/2025/04/16/u...

Just out in Cell @cellpress.bsky.social. Amazing collaboration with @flowerwhatelse.bsky.social, Renaud Dumas, Matias Zurbriggen, Ken Birnbaum and François Roudier. And spearheaded by two amazing scientists: Raquel Martin-Arevalillo and Bruno Guillotin

Trump is destroying the U.S.'s winningest export, higher education. It is worth more than it sold in coal and natural gas combined! Our post secondary institutions are envy of the world, produce new knowledge and promote American values. Gift link. wapo.st/4luJyph

As someone directly affected by this, let me be clear: I'd rather lose my job because Harvard chose to fight than keep my job and see a generation of white supremacists parade its corpse around like a war trophy.

Absolutely thrilled to share our story—please take a moment to check it out! Huge thanks to all the contributors and my amazing supervisor @lmueller.bsky.social . This was truly a team effort! #peptides #mycorrhiza www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

In a few months @dolfweijers.bsky.social and team has provided an unbelievable amount of details on ARF/auxin evolution 😯 Trying to keep track here doi.org/10.1038/s414... doi.org/10.1073/pnas... doi.org/10.1016/j.cu... And the latest @natplants.nature.com 🔽 www.nature.com/articles/s41...

I am very happy to see this story published! This was a wonderful collaboration between the @mestelle.bsky.social lab (@ucsandiego.bsky.social) on the moss side, Annis Richardson’s lab on the maize side, and @luciastrader.bsky.social lab’s help throughout. #plantscience #auxin

Final version of our preprint on ARF degradation now online @natplants.nature.com. Great job by PhD student Martijn de Roij in our team @bic-wur.bsky.social @w-u-r.bsky.social with @jorgehg.bsky.social and JW Borst. Great to see this appear along @mjprigge.bsky.social paper!!! rdcu.be/ehkTn

UCSD braces for possible $500M in annual cuts, shelves some building plans

Our lab's first review article written with @yadhusankar.bsky.social and @vijayalakshmi.bsky.social is out now in The Plant Journal! 🎉🌱 We discuss temporal regulation of (plant) development. When and how do plants control organ and cell identity progression? onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

It took well over 1000 Arabidopsis crosses before I noticed how consistent the ripening time is. I now set a reminder to collect the F1 seeds exactly 19 days later (really late flowers are ready 1 day quicker.)

Uh oh, we just noticed that the "OsTIR1" used in hundreds of papers using Auxin-Induced Depletion (AID) is actually OsAFB2 not the TIR1 ortholog.

Great paper by the group of lab alumnus Changzheng Xu on auxin regulation of fiber development in poplar. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

23andMe customers who once turned over the most personal form of information to the company — their own genetic data — may want it back after the personal genomics and biotech startup declared bankruptcy on Sunday.

Generations of dedicated public servants have, unseen by the general public, done all kinds of extraordinary things that benefit all of us—like preserving the genetic diversity of crop species that sustain humanity. Musk is blindly slashing it all. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/22/o...
