A major medical group now recommends pain-blocking treatments for IUD insertion and other procedures amid a growing recognition that women's pain should be treated.

people need to internalize, very quickly, that federal research grants are a hypercompetitive contracting process not charity, and that what Uncle Sam gets in return for that money is American dominance in the future

eight years ago today we all watched the glory of zendaya falling madly in love with tom holland and the internet was never the same

Finally, an easy way to explain the difference between Star Wars and Star Trek: One has Werner Herzog demanding a magic baby The other has David Cronenberg explaining cosmic science politics

your budgeting around your poverty level is killing the economy

all the guys being emasculated by their email jobs are welcome to do real work with their hands and go work at a long term care facility

Yup!

Men assess their own capacity to work a factory job with the same accuracy that they assess their chance of beating Serena Williams at tennis.

you know things are going well when they break out the turnip photos

Okay, yeah, in fairness Marx did fail to anticipate vanguardist bankers desperately trying to turn the woke back on

I feel like the core of protest discourse is the inability of many of the participants to recognize how long and miserable of a slog this is going to be. Some of y’all are more interested in picking apart whether yesterday’s protests were done the “right” way instead of asking what next steps are.

There is not a single more useless post on al gore's internet than someone at home on their phone complaining that millions in the streets are doing it wrong

Oregonians showed up yesterday to send the powerful message to Trump that we are speaking up and pushing back. There's a long road ahead, but cracks are starting to form in their attack on America. Huge thanks to everyone who showed up to push the pendulum back to a better America.

I don't think people really grasp that sewing is a skill and that textiles are a legitimate subject of study. The whole point of Elle Woods studying fashion merchandising is that it was supposed to be frivolous but it's actually hard and those skills were transferable to Harvard Law.

yes of course these types of protests are cringe, they’re incredibly cringe, all successful propaganda is cringe. and that weepy sentimentality is one of the things that can eventually make people decide it’s worth taking risks against their own safety and security for something more important

The biggest thing we need to do is let people know that the protests are FUN. Yelling fuck the man is fun. You will meet fun people. We also need to make them more fun. Bring grills like the French. Bring instruments like it’s Mardi Gras. Give people a reason to spend their weekend in the streets.

So many things none of us will perceive will come out of today's gatherings. That's the point. People find each other, they take some strength and remember they aren't actually isolated and alone. This is fortification for what's to come.

Friends, I know you're excited to try protesting, but under no circumstances should you ever sign up to attend one. I'm suspicious of any org asking people to put their name on a list that is easily accessible via warrant or may even be public. You can just show up day of.

Also I hope we're all on this same page EVERYONE needs to be brought out of that El Salvadorian hell hole they were ALL wrongfully deported. I mean it's good to focus on 'And this guy was here legally and not ever a gang member AND they're Venezuelan' but NO ONE should've been sent there

Just because he sucked at buying votes doesn’t mean he shouldn’t still be arrested for it

well, a very big congrats to the idiots on Wall Street that ignored every single sign that he was going to do this

Woke up, remembered that Schumer barreled in and stepped all over whatever Booker had planned for the moment when he passed Thurmond, immediately started ranting like Pacino in Glengarry Glen Ross.

me to the united states: this could be us but you playin’

moving forward I would like to see dems gum up the works every way possible. No unanimous consent, full votes on every tiny piece of business. I don't expect everyone to have the stamina to do a Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, but many lengthy floor speeches. Just slow everything down to a crawl.

Moreover, the one resource we desperately need to defy an authoritarian regime is TIME. And even if we can’t always stop them, we can stall for time. We can force them to drag it out. We can make them burn their precious resources on having to slow down and reset repeatedly. Time is a win.

It's always a good day to remember that literally every Confederate general was literally a traitor.

Ursula K. Le Guin on the true pain of being a writer

Every time someone my age says something about “a brainrot trend on TikTok…” I’m compelled to remind Gen X that we were obsessed with Gregorian chant for a year in the 90s. Like we *went to the mall* & *bought CDs of it*. We blasted it in our cars driving to our high schools. This was normal to us🥸

it's time for

AOC: If you are an LGBTQ kid or family, we cannot throw you under the bus in order to win an election. In this house, we stand together

It’s important to understand that when a white person says “this has never happened before” or compares some oppressive behavior to a foreign regime, but it *did* happen here to Black/brown people for years/decades/centuries, it represents a massive blow to solidarity. It’s selfish.

Is it too much to ask that Chuck Schumer pull a George Costanza and do the opposite of all his natural instincts?

A YES on cloture is a YES for the bill. Do not let anyone play games with you.

I'm really tired of hearing how Congress is afraid of Trump, Big Law is afraid of Trump. Corporations are afraid of Trump. Meanwhile, thousands of people with a lot more to lose are out on the protest lines every single day. Suck it up, already.

Merkley: "The best time to take on a tyrant is as early as possible. And this is the moment."

I dunno, a podcast could be pretty useful for a standard bearer of a minority party in order to better communicate how the party in power is adversely affecting the populace. Just because Newsom is being craven about it doesn’t mean he’s not also wasting a huge opportunity.

Theoretical physicist who also does research in humanities using critical theories. It’s interesting how when it comes down to it, no one is mad at quantum field theory being confusing — for physicists too — but they’re mad at humanists for also having analytic frameworks that take time to learn.

I keep seeing this. Guys, their literal job is to figure out what to do. They are not helpless even if they are not the majority. I really hope we can stop treating some of the most powerful people in the world as helpless and without sentience.
