🌍 On #WorldEnvironmentDay, we’re spotlighting the forgotten polymers: PLFs. Found in shampoos, paints & detergents, 36m tonnes are made yearly - almost none reused. It’s time to act. 🔗https://buff.ly/1pPOAhW #SustainablePLFs2040 #BeatPlasticPollution #ChemSky

Happy #pride month! We believe that chemistry is for everyone. In the face of opposition that threatens the progress we've made, it's never been more important for us to promote equality of opportunities and make chemistry as open, inclusive and diverse as it should be: buff.ly/1dShs0l #ChemSky

To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Nanoscale Horizons and all the community members who have supported the journal over our 10 years, we interviewed some of Advisory and Community board members 👇: blogs.rsc.org/nh/202...

The boy has finished the Junior Illustrated Maths Dictionary so now I've ordered the next one, a book called Simply Maths and Kirby Manga Mania 3. His ability to absorb information - if it interests him - is amazing.

Some people say decolonisation does not apply in STEM. This is what it looks like in a review article - exploring origins of our research that date back to the ancient world, and tracing societal development in oft-overlooked areas through to the cutting-edge of science. pubs.rsc.org/en/content/a...

Happy Birthday to the GOAT: Miles Edward O'Brien. ... I mean, Colm Meaney. 🖖🏻🥃

Today is National Biscuit Day, and it’s about time that I populated this account with biscuit (cookie) sets from the past few years. Here are some of my favourites. 🧵 First up, a set inspired by the delicious designs of William Morris and John Henry Dearle.

Woke up with a not-quite-a-migraine, took migraleve so it doesn't hurt now but feel quite sleepy. Got to work to discover there are no cheese scones today - @rsc.org colleagues will understand the devastation caused to my day. Thank goodness for coffee!

Last couple of days until the abstract submission deadline, this Friday the 30th of May, for our @rsc-photochem.bsky.social early career meeting in London this June. For more details about how to submit an abstract for a talk or poster please see: https//www.rsc.org... #photochemistry #solarfuels

Can you help in my hunt for new research posters? I run a workshop on academic poster design & presentations and I’m looking for new examples to share. If you have a poster I can use please get in touch. Good, bad and ugly examples are all more than welcome.

Love today’s #xkcd comic on #MassSpec 🤣

It’s Mary Anning’s birthday, so time to share @katebeaton.bsky.social’s brilliant cartoon again.

Are they still calling this gender critical *feminism*?

We saw this coming. There is literally no way to police trans women's existence without also throwing cis women under the bus.

It's #worldmetrologyday! 150 years ago today, a group of nations signed a treaty called The Metre Convention. It established the framework for the first global, unified measurement system & changed the world.

Tales from a single parent: getting a call from school saying child feels unwell when you're just finishing a meeting in London - we do not live in London. That was a very stressful trip home, apparently willing a train to go faster doesn't work. Child is absolutely fine this morning.

Absolutely delighted with my new pic from the incredibly talented @gingertotty.bsky.social definitely recommend taking a peek at her Etsy shop: www.etsy.com/uk/shop/Dipp... Can't wait to give one to my Dad next week for his birthday.

Working from home a lot and often being alone for multiple days when the kids are away means that you forget that talking to yourself and your computer in the office would be considered unusual.

Interesting paper here in @chemicalscience.rsc.org. I was a first generation UG, as defined here. I spectacularly failed my first year & almost got kicked out. Recognise the points about failing to adapt. After 37 years, this can still influence my outlook, not always productively. #chemsky

Very long shot, but I am looking for a **student** at any university in Kyoto, who is good with hardware and wants a student job at my lab... If you know anyone. Remote work not possible

9th of May, Europe Day!

1/12 Tony Blair Institute have released a report which is getting a lot of coverage in UK today It says the drive for net zero emissions is flawed and some media outlets have gone to town However it’s a bit odd By odd, I mean there’s a lot of bollocks in it and shouldn't be taken seriously 🧵🧵

The UK Supreme Court did not hear from any trans or gender diverse people before ruling on the definition of a woman in the Equality Act. Without this crucial consultation, there’s a higher risk of introducing policies and procedures that not only discriminate but just don’t make sense.

We are proud to announce that we have awarded four outstanding scientists our highest accolade, Honorary Fellowships, in recognition of their exceptional contributions to the chemical sciences and to society. 👉 Follow the thread to learn more about each one. #ChemSky

Another fantastic event run by our lovely @rsc.org volunteers on our Analytical Bioscience Group committee.
