"Israeli soldiers in Gaza told Haaretz that the army has deliberately fired at Palestinians near aid distribution sites..." www.haaretz.com/israel-news/...

The science is clear: no fossil fuel projects can be opened if the world is to avoid catastrophic climate change. Despite this, a slew of polluting gas projects are either poised to begin operating in Australia, or lie firmly in the sights of industry. theconversation.com/woodsides-no...

What do you call it? My @smh @theage cartoon.

The InterLink website is relaunching as an information hub for people with innate variations of sex characteristics and our families. Check out the information and the posters! @interaction.org.au ilink.net.au

Half a million people in Gaza on the brink of famine with no food or aid since March 2, AP reports, while bombing and ground operations intensify: apnews.com/article/hama...

1/ After nearly 3 years of research, our @hrw.org report "The Gig Trap" is finally out. It documents how companies like Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, Instacart, Shipt, Favor, and Amazon Flex created a business model that undermines labor rights & deepens inequality in the US. “While States debate terminology - is it or is it not genocide? - Israel continues its relentless destruction of life in Gaza, through attacks by land, air and sea, displacing and massacring the surviving population with impunity,” the experts said.

“We congratulate the Albanese Labor government on its re-election, with the promise to reform & build, to leave no-one behind, & to promote fairness, equality & respect for one another.” -Dr Morgan Carpenter Read our statement including our call to action here- interaction.org.au/41786/call-f...

Laura: “The Coalition resorted to anti-immigration sentiment, attempted to fuel irritation with welcomes to country…spoke about a woke school curriculum & raged about hate media. It prosecuted all these points with.. support of News Corp's newspapers &..Sky News. newsapp.abc.net.au/news/2025-05...

Just putting it out there... you don't have to be a citizen to go and get a #DemocracySausage (though the Haloumi bites look delicious too!)

Tim Flannery expresses both pragmatism and vision in this great interview

Movie you’ve watched more than six times using gifs. (“Hard mode” no Star Wars, Star Trek, or LOTR)

Wait so, men and women can’t share spaces “because it is unsafe”, so a trans man can’t go in the men’s room because he “is not a man”, but he can’t go in the women’s room because “he looks like a man”, so he needs a segregated “mixed sex room” that men and women will *safely* share IM SORRY WHAT?!

I don't know that Valerie here really needed rescuing, although there are other reasons why a loose dog would not be a good thing on this island "Valerie the dachshund has been rescued after being lost for 529 days on Kangaroo Island." www.abc.net.au/news/2025-04...

People with innate variations of sex characteristics (intersex/dsd) are usually cisgender, but we can all be impacted by legislation targeting trans people. This preprint (I’m proud to have coauthored with a great team) looks at intersex exceptions in US legislation restricting care for trans youth

Sara Ahmed has written an entire book on this, titled, aptly, "Complaint!" www.dukeupress.edu/complaint

It feels a little forgotten but when the Coalition was in power in 2022, they delayed the release of updates showing electricity price rises so Labor would take the blame - and it *worked* really well reneweconomy.com.au/a-rudderless...

This is it, folks. Far larger than Harvard itself, as large as Harvard is. Every nonprofit from the center leftward is on notice for potential destruction.

"The intersex movement is fundamentally a liberation movement. Like other liberation movements, it aims to allow individuals to make our own choices about our bodies and identities ourselves, to the maximum extent possible" Words of mine from 2023 in Clinical Ethics journal doi.org/10.1177/1477...

"The rhetoric around “gender ideology” subjugates the interests of intersex people to the interests of larger intersecting populations, including the interests of parents, clinicians, women, trans and same-sex-attracted people."

Are you keen to pursue further studies in health, health law, bioethics, or a related field, to promote the health of people with innate variations of sex characteristics? Consider this PhD scholarship for domestic (Australian/NZ) students! Closing date: 27 April www.sydney.edu.au/scholarships...

Video obtained by my colleague Farnaz Fassihi shows how the IDF deliberately attacked, over several minutes, a convoy of ambulances and other emergency vehicles in #Gaza. #Israel wrongly claimed that the vehicles drove without emergency signals and headlights. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/04/w...

We've solved the mystery on why all those remote and uninhabited islands were targeted for tariffs by Trump - they show up in US trade data due to mislabelled shipments. eg mixing up Norfolk, Virginia or Norfolk UK with Norfolk Island! www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...

Today marks a one year historic milestone in intersex rights. On April 4, 2024, the UN Human Rights Council adopted its first-ever resolution specifically addressing the discrimination, violence, and harmful practices faced by intersex individuals. Read more at interaction.org.au/40833/unhrc-...

As global inequality soars, President Donald Trump has recruited a bloat of fellow billionaires to help run his administration, including the world’s richest man.

This is: 1. an absolutely nonsensical way to think about trade 2. nothing to do with tariff barriers, it’s just…relative trade. It’s just something else entirely 3. a CRAZILY back-of-the-envelope way to set global trade policy It is mad that this is real.

The list of tariffs Trump is imposing includes the uninhabitable Heard and McDonald islands, where penguins and beetles have been hit with a 10% "reciprocal" tariff for their non-existent exports to the US. Stop helping insane people manufacture consent by using their language

As Trump regime threatens research that doesn't espouse his fascist ideology, Australia's largest partner is now unreliable. Walking away from repeated offers to join largest fund in the world, Horizon Europe, was always a mistake. Now it's a grave error. www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/news/2025/03...

Casar: One of the most important things I learned is how so many of the most right-wing elected officials break things, do not want services to work, and then campaign on them being broken in order to gain political power.

“Hundreds of people [in Gaza] have reportedly been killed, including more than 130 children, representing one of the largest single-day child death toll in the last year" – UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell www.croakey.org/amid...

This is unjust

“The Trump administration has canceled funding for an ongoing 30-year, nationwide study tracking patients with prediabetes and diabetes, researchers said, at a time when top officials have emphasized their determination to curb the incidence of such chronic conditions.”

People might think that whatever destruction is done to science in the US, we can undo in 4 years with a Democratic president and Congress. The problem is that many areas require specialized knowledge and skills built up over years, and once that's lost, it's hard to get back.

This is horrible to post, but I may as well post it. We are essentially shutting down research operations in my group, which is focused on treatments for pediatric brain cancer. I’m a well funded investigator, and there’s no choice. Science can’t function without the stability of NIH
