Leading expert on democratic collapse says most authoritarian regimes start by seizing control of government agencies with power to regulate and prosecute. Trump is already, right now, closely following the path to entrenching an authoritarian regime.

“A walking conflict of interest… $20 Billion in 🇺🇸 government contracts…” www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

This is an ominous precedent to set.

Huh. Wonder if this has anything to do with vaccines?

Human Shield is such a unique name for a little boy. Is it from Afrikaans?

ya know, there used to be plenty of Republicans who I certainly disagreed with on a lot of things but who I at least believed had some personal integrity. Thinking of Bob & Elizabeth Dole, Lamar Alexander, John McCain, Olympia Snowe, etc. … are there any still around?

Yeats has this pinned to the wall... For how can you compete, Being honour bred, with one Who were it proved he lies Were neither shamed in his own Nor in his neighbours’ eyes;

PROGRESSIVES AGAINST KAMALA HARRIS IN 2024: "Don't vote for her!!!! She isn't good for Palestine!!!!" DONALD TRUMP IN 2025: "We should ethnic cleanse the Palestinians from Gaza so I can build some Mediterranean-view condos."

Hungarians who lived through Viktor Orbán’s 2010 authoritarian power grab warn Americans: Act now, before it’s too late.

👏🏼👏🏼👇🏼 “The AFL-CIO has launched the Department of People Who Work for a Living (DPWL), a new campaign to hold Elon Musk's Dept of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, accountable & make sure the federal government is responsive to working people & not just to the whims of an unelected CEO like Musk.”

Crockett: “I’m tired of the white tears. If you’re competent you’re not concerned. When you compare me to Greene/Boebert there’s no comparison… The only ppl crying are mediocre white boys beaten out by people that had to work much harder.” Full: www.instagram.com/reel/DFp8K0M...

We're not fighting culture "wars" so much as enduring the right's cultural assault on the basic premises that: 1) people should be left alone to live their own lives when they're not hurting anyone *and* 2) that public systems should aim at fair treatment of all people.

Even hellsite's severely limited and compromised fact-checking system won't abide a lie this blatant:

It’s weird to think that when I first joined BlueSky, I was mainly planning to use it to follow people who post about science fiction, fantasy, and comic books.

Today in LA. I ❤️ my town.

One thing Democrats could do right now is repeating ad nauseam that Republicans in Congress have the power to stop this. That would a) give permission to even just one Republican to speak up and b) help the public understand who is responsible for this mess and hopefully start to turn the tide.

At OPM, Musk’s staffers won’t leave—they work around the clock and have even installed sofa beds in the office. Our access to data systems has been restricted, raising serious concerns about cybersecurity and a complete lack of oversight. We are keeping our heads down and documenting everything.

Dear the Media, When something bad happens in an area under the executive branch's purview, and the White House goes "uh... a Black or gay person must've done it," you do not need to accept that. You're allowed to follow up in pursuit of the factual reason, not the bigoted excuse. Love, The public

Interesting list. I’ve only ever been to a couple of these. Maybe that’s a goal — explore my home state. www.worldatlas.com/cities/8-qui...
