Today, @nihfellowsunited.bsky.social staff sent a powerful letter to the NIH Director outlining serious concerns about the agency’s direction. Thousands have already signed in support—add your name. – Mary Munson, ASCB President www.standupforscience.net/bethesda-dec...

Kurt Russell, LA needs you now more than ever.

Some context folks may need to understand this decision: A promise of funding from NIH/NSF can now be taken away at any time. This can put unis and lead researchers in a tight spot financially and reptuationally. Grant apps make promises that only funding can keep. 🧵🧪

Many amoebae incorporate diatoms in their shells, but Cylindrifflugia bacillariarum is the master. Third and fourth pics are close views of the glue that holds it all together. #ProtistsonSky #Amoebae #Peatlands

At the ICE raid and subsequent community resistance in Paramount, California this morning, this skater kid ate dozens of munitions from Border Patrol agents, walked away slowly and flipped them off.

🚨ICE ALERT 🚨 If you see this vehicle or these two individuals, they are ICE agents and they disappeared two individuals at the Pittsburgh Municipal Courthouse today after refusing to show their attorneys a warrant. Reporting ICE is community safety.

Please enjoy this ridiculously cute butterfly, which was about the size of my pinkie fingernail. It's in the butterfly family called metalmarks (Riodinidae). Males, like these, have reduced front legs and perch using only the rear 4 (females can use all 6). Sarota acantus; Costa Rica šŸ™šŸŒæ #insects

For the past 5 months I’ve been privileged to live surrounded by incredibly biodiverse Panamanian rainforest, & it’s been a wonderful experience. But the relative rarity of some insects is deeply disturbing. There is no more important story in the world right now. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Polished an old brass (and copper?) lamp we had in our section's storage. Made by Almond Man. Co. in Brooklyn, NY with patent number on it from 1898. Being from that era, it may have been a lamp of the museum's and section's first director, William Jacob Holland (pictured behind the polished lamp).

Using museum specimens for microbiome analyses? We tested it out - and it seems these samples could be an untapped resource for understanding host-microbe interactions! ā¬‡ļø
