Consistently competent teaching. I really think this is the key to a good education. Consistency in: Teachers knowing their stuff Good behaviour Kids paying attention Clear explanations Checking for understanding Kids working hard

It's that time of year when people start to think about planning for September. If you think there's too much content in GCSE Computer Science, you could take a top-down approach (i.e. start with a few big ideas) rather than a bottom-up approach (working through the points in the spec), e.g... 1/4

What would be your top tips for becoming a confident programmer? I'm thinking: 1. Practise, practise, practise! 2. Don't use LLMs, but use, e.g., Stack Overflow, if you're stuck. 3. Get into the habit of looking at things and wondering how they work, or how you could program them. #TeamCompSci

The absolute last thing schools need right now - while dealing with an extremely tight funding settlement and rising poverty - is a radical overhaul of the exam system.

🚀 Excited for Festival of Computing 2025? Meet some of the speakers like Sarah Roberts, Tim Brady, Rebecca Frank, Dr Tracy Gardner & Mark Calleja! — It’s going to be a must-attend event! 📅 2nd July | Bromsgrove School 📌 shorturl.at/5CUUp #TeamCompSci #CraignDave #festivalofcomputing25 #OCR

Old bike? New bike? Rusty hand-me-down? Dream carbon build? At NR we genuinely don’t care what you ride — as long as you’re riding. Because getting you out there — safely, confidently, and smiling — matters more than the spec sheet. Because everyone deserves a ride that feels good.

Nice blog. FLMOP is like a magic trick for better behaviour, and I like the concreteness of the scenarios and strategies presented here. Check it out, and thank you Mason for writing!

OK #edusky. Off the back of this little conversation. What's the best present you've ever had from a pupil? I'll repeat, mine was when a Y11 baked me a raspberry pie. Would make a great @teachertapp.bsky.social question if it's not already been asked. #teamCompSci

📲⛔️ How many teachers had a student disrupt a lesson with a mobile phone, adjusted for the rules about mobiles in the school. How much difference do the rules make? Here are some @teachertapp.bsky.social findings for you - join in onelink.to/teachertapp

I think I've got something in my eye. Special bunch, this year's Y11. Can't wait to see what they do next. #TeamCompSci

www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ Why is it not huge news that schools get hit by ransomware? Schools have more data than marks and spencer or coop FYI. Also can we see how ridiculous terms like “spear phishing” are? Just say targeted scam email. All these special cyber words mean nothing.

Strong 2024 energy about this article #TeamCompSci. Looks like the 'adjustment' to grading from last year didn't work. schoolsweek.co.uk/calls-for-la... #CSed #CASchat

And erm, me..... #edusky #teamCompSci

No. Next question.
