Gran presidente!

I am so proud of these societies! None of them are particularly large (not even SSE) but they have understood the importance of collective organizing! Excellent tools!

Make your voice heard – join the tri-society Week of Action for NSF! Call and write congress, and tell colleagues, friends, and family about the importance of NSF funding. Find how to get started in our Media Tool: shorturl.at/i7WfU

Totally unexpected development: my employer is responding to a financial crisis by implementing new bureaucratic measures that not only waste a ton of faculty time but serve to increase, rather than decrease, administrative staffing needs.

The courts *should* put an immediate and unequivocal halt to all use of the CECOT prison in El Salvador, with or without due process. They may not do that. But the *people* of the US still can. Don't lose of sight of this atrocity amidst the other outrages. Make this a key focus of resistance.

Quick look at NSF GRFPs awarded 2021-2025. Overall 50% drop from 2024, with biggest absolute decreases in engineering, life sciences and chemistry. (sorry about the meh viz, in a hurry)

And you better be defending the rights of others to immigrate to this country...

I think it's important for my fellow Americans to remember: other countries do not owe us a spot to flee to. I don't begrudge anyone for applying elsewhere, but it's far from a guarantee. If you're serious about looking elsewhere, look up your goal country's immigration requirements.

Emergency motion calls for ICE to produce Tufts student sent to Louisiana. Arbitrary, capricious, and cruel. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

We want our students to be "obedient", to follow arbitrary rules of place time and manner, and then, we are surprised to be in a society that just follows orders, even if they make no sense.

Exciting news! @wcratcliff.bsky.social and I published an essay last week in @nature.com reviewing the substantial contributions of 'long-term' studies to evolutionary biology www.nature.com/articles/s41... 1/n

An eclipse …. Seen from the Moon!

Are you faculty in the UC system? you might want to know that the only faculty body recognized to negotiate labor issues with UCOP and the State are the faculty associations. This is a good time to join and strengthen our collective power cucfa.org/join/

I’m thrilled to share my first ever publication, now published in PNAS! www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/... With mentorship from the amazing @ksxue.bsky.social, I looked at how the outcomes of species introductions to microbial communities are influenced by the number of introduced microbes.

When students were attacked by cops in the México City protests of 68, UNAM’s Rector - Javier Barros Sierra - stayed silent for fear of jeopardizing university funding. Just kidding. He ordered all flags to 1/2 mast, led 80,000 down Av. Insurgentes, & gave an epic speech defending free expression

This is absolutely terrifying

Another incredible piece of work by @wcratcliff.bsky.social and team, and the good thing is that if you do not want to read the paper you can read the blsky version in only 46*~400 characters 🤣. Congrats!!!

I agree about this, but where was everyone when students actually GOT ARRESTED for protesting on campus.... Now those students have their names in the system and are the first ones that Trump will go after.

I saw @fernpizza.bsky.social present some of this work on the Evolution conference last year and I was really impressed. I am so excited to see it out!

Can't wait to read!!! Seems awesome!

Listening to Shakira in Spanish because: 1. It is unquestionable better, and 2. reflected a much more hopeful time than the backlash Shakira (anti-feminist tax evader) of recent years.

You discovered that someone that works for the SS is anti-semitic.
