Some photos and thoughts from AFRAM 2025 at Druid Hill Park, Baltimore, MD. Stay cool folks.

One of my favorite @theonion.com articles is suddenly relevant again.

A push. Remington. Baltimore, MD. 2025.

On the occasion of the beginning of my 39th year on this world, I concede that I am blessed—truly, beautifully, chaotically, thoughtfully—with the gifts of laughter, charity, time, fried chicken, baked goods, and love. Not bad for the man who had no dreams of living past thirty.

Thank you endlessly for the birthday wishes, wonderful pictures, and for what hopefully becomes more frequent east coast photo adventures…. It means so much to be thought of!

"My band teacher would have us take turns soloing over them—adding our own twists to the same lines that used to drive me crazy. Some of those variations ended up shaping how I thought about improvising. They made me a better player. And they prepared me for my true musical love: third-wave ska."

Let us today, as patriots, renew our resolve against an administration that sows division among neighbors, betrays the Constitution, vilifies immigrants as “invaders,” and tears people from their communities to disappear into foreign prisons.

Orioles win.

Outside Camden Yards after that beautiful Orioles win over the Tigers last night.

Road to Damascus Michael Wriston @mwriston.bsky.social captures America’s backroad gospel in bold, sun-bleached signs—part sermon, part spectacle—shouting belief into the roar of passing trucks. #photoessay #photostory #photostories #passionproject photographychronicle.com/road-to-dama...

Beyond thrilled to have my project, 'Road to Damascus,' featured on The Photography Chronicle. Many thanks to Paul Mortlock for including my work alongside the projects of so many talented and visionary photographers. photographychronicle.com/road-to-dama...

The photographic trifecta, for me: an overlit corner store, colorful string lights, and an imposing figure. I had just finished photographing a doorway that read Know Thyself when I saw the crew at Wings Things ‘N’ More closing up for the night. Know myself, I must — because of course I had to stop.

Had an incredible conversation over lunch with Dr. Andrew Solomon, National Book Award-winning author of ‘The Noonday Demon,’ discussing military leadership, suicidality in the armed forces, authentic living in conformist environments, and how creativity helps process trauma.

Money orders. Anthonyville. Baltimore, MD. 2025.

I don’t think social media is the place to have meaningful conversation, by and large. It’s no more effective than trying to articulately discuss geopolitics with the people in a crowded airport.

Self portrait with cat at night, Oliver. Baltimore, MD. 2025.

The “news” about a petulant oligarch tiffing with an egocentric world leader has got me starting my annual “Animals” re-listen just a bit early this year.

My neighbors—both teachers—were set to open a pre-K in the city this fall, aided by an au pair carefully selected to support their neurodivergent child. But the State Department nixed J-1 visas (au pairs: a clear threat to national security), so now the school may not open. America!

Getting ready for a few portfolio submissions means I probably need to show something more than just a Halloween photo alongside my artist statement.

"This, I believe, is photography's most profound function for those of us who must construct livable versions of our past: not to preserve truth, but to create bearable fiction."

“The train departed Romney and wound its way south through Johnson, Pancake, and Sector. We had seats in the dining car—thank you, Cait—where Lauren and Kim’Bree served us lemonade that never seemed to run out, salad, warm cornbread, chicken alfredo, and a slab of chocolate each.”

Good morning, Baltimore.

The fourth Thursday in June just got a lot more exciting—it's the EPFL Photo Book Meet Up! Buy your plane tickets, book a train, and get thee to the library. We're bringing books from home, we're looking at the library's collection. But most of all, we're having a good time.
