🧩 PhD Position – Origins of Darwinian Inheritance 🧩 This joint PhD project between the @rug.nl (Rampal Etienne & Martijn Egas) and @utrechtuniversity.bsky.social (Bram van Dijk) explores how simple prebiotic systems could evolve reliable information transfer. Apply here: shorturl.at/WgYMF

♦️RESCHEDULED My talk "Time in Biology: A Defense of the A-Theory" will now take place on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at 10:00 CET, UNED & online. I'll argue that biology supports a dynamic view of time: one where the present matters, the future is open, and time truly flows. +info: acortar.link/E477on

Can anyone recommend a good textbook on modern approaches/knowledge to evolutionary biology? I was thinking of "The Princeton Guide to Evolution" but not 100% sure... #evolution #evolutionarybiology #academia #biology #textbook #evobio

Emmanuel College (my school!) is looking for full-time, one-year Lecturer of Mathematics. We're a small school in the heart of Boston with a friendly and supportive math department. I can answer any questions about the position. Please share widely! emmanuel.interviewexchange.com/jobofferdeta...

Well ain't this just about the finest darned thing you ever did see? What a love letter to early paleoart - an age of gods and monsters. "ANTEDILUVIAN" by @mariolanzas.bsky.social www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHsz...

This stupid thing is the most popular art post I ever made, so enjoy it as a throwback. Be advised though that I have only read a bit of the comic and any references you make will go over my head and be wasted

Behold a cardboard Shiga toxin phage! Work in progress is sometimes better than the final thing... #sciart #microsky 🧪

Hello Bluesky! 📸 How's it going? I'm an art director & photographer. I also help out on video games at ▧ UNSEEN as Visual Director ☔

I'll be posting some quotes from my book in this thread. The book is overpriced due to a knee-jerk reaction to the pandemic in 2022. But you can get 30% off using code P325 at press.princeton.edu/books/paperb...

Happy #microscopymonday! Here is an amoeba with a very prominent contractile vacuole. This organelle collects water and pumps it out of the cell, allowing freshwater amoebae to deal with osmosis in freshwater environments. Sort of like bailing water out of a leaky boat! 🛶 🪣💦

I'm starting to consider #scientific #illustration as (very very) side gig... Not sure how to go about it though xD

From Ben Good: competition btwn linked mutations can..enhance selection for modifiers that increase benefits of future mutations, even when they impose a strong direct cost on fitness. However..modest direct benefits can..drive evolutionary dead ends to fixation. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Life update! Last week I started a new job at the National Genomics Center for Wildlife and Fish Conservation! I’ll be focusing on conservation genomics methodologies for (mostly) carnivores. I’ll be continuing to work on snow leopards, and add in other cool species including Italian wolves!

To enthuse students into modelling, I'm gamifying a model of foraging ants. 🐜 I haven't figured out yet what the best combination of traits is, but let me know if you find anything interesting (or more likely: a bug). Go check it out! 💻 bramvandijk88.github.io/cacatoo/ant_...

This is one of these little pages that fill you with so much emotion! Everything just fits so nicely! Make sure you take a peak. And share far and wide! :D

This is fascinating science — and also an ideal model of what a good perspective piece can be.

hi scientists 🧪 i'd love to hear your thoughts on bluesky! • what groups/people in science aren't here yet, that you want to see? • what can bluesky do to make it a better place for science comms? • what external tools do you use that should integrate bluesky support? • anything else!

So true. All. The. Time.
