not the main issue here but i'd really appreciate it if democratic politicians spoke out in support of big-city life and culture with the same energy and reverence that all politicians have for small towns los angeles is "real america" and so are all the other big cities the president hates

for context here’s a map of greater Los Angeles and the protest is the roughly the red circle

A DOGE staffer developed an AI tool that hallucinated the size of Veterans Affairs contracts. For example, it concluded that more than a thousand deals were each worth $34 million, when in fact some were for as little as $35,000.

In itself it's not the biggest thing but Congress specifically passed a law requiring ICE to allow access to members of Congress because of Trump's antics in the first term. This isn't even norms. It's violating black letter statute law.

Notable clip today👇 in light of the news that the Trump administration successfully pressured ABC into suspending Moran

"When conservatives destroy these public goods, it doesn’t necessarily lead to a Democratic backlash at the ballot box, and they see this as a long-term investment in a more ignorant population reliant on sources of information they can control — a docile population that can be easily manipulated."

So do we get why I was banned from speaking about Pinochet at the Naval Academy now?

Today: Tanks are being moved en masse into DC. Trump is deploying a state national guard over a governor’s objection to police protests. Trump threatened a major donor with “severe consequences” if they support his political opponents. If you’re still wondering what time it is, read this again

These two orders combine to provide DOGE with both access to extremely sensitive information and protections against accountability. 1. Access: bsky.app/profile/chri...

It's the Washington Monument in the background that really takes this to next-level dystopian

A cool thing to do is watch two awful people go after each other and hold onto the fact that they’re still both awful and that you don’t need to reconsider your opinions on either one of them.

I'm just glad one of these men has the nuclear codes and the other has all our personal data.

Citizens United is among the worst decisions in Supreme Court history. It's allowed billionaires to completely take over our politics and destroy our democracy. There are days when we are reminded just how pernicious that ruling was. Today is one of those days.

Earth will warm 1.5 degrees Celsius above preindustrial levels in just two years, new data shows. Irreversible tipping points — like the melting of Arctic ice sheets or the collapse of coral reefs — are closer at hand than previously believed.

Trump has so paralyzed the federal agencies responsible for protecting civil servants’ rights that federal employees may now be able to win relief directly from courts instead, the 4th Circuit rules. A very good decision for the independent civil service. knightcolumbia.org/documents/9m...

Honestly glad we will have some visuals to illustrate the collapse of American government into North Korean levels of personalism

I'm biased, but this report is a must-read for anyone looking to understand the state of AI in 2025. It explains how AI is entrenching power for big tech and the oligarch class, speeding deregulation, dislodging human expertise and threatening workers—and how there's still time to refuse all that.

Corporate profits have hit record highs. CEOs are paid 290x as much as a typical worker. We're subsidizing huge corporations that pay lousy wages through food stamps and Medicaid. But instead of cracking down on corporate greed, Republicans want to punish the working poor.

Genius. Must watch.

Remember when Ronald Reagan literally had Alzheimer's during his 2nd term, his wife ran the country with astrology, the Republicans all covered it up and turned him into an icon naming airports and highways after him all over the country? Yeah, that actually happened.
