Introducing 'sane-heteroprofessionalism': A critical lens on how professionalism in higher education marginalises queer, trans & m/Mad subjectivities. 🎓🌈 🔗https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/14681366.2024.2418096 Feel free to share!

#HorrorWritersChat The solstice sunrise promised many things. The hotter days to come, the sun setting at its latest, the banishing of beasts of the dark. Who'd have guessed it would refuse to set at all this year, or that the monsters of the light were even worse?

I watched my mother's gaze follow the solstice sunrise over the horizon. She grasped my fingers and the sharp scent of iron wafting to my nose in the early morning. "It is finished," she said, and I looked over the cliff at the man splayed out on the altar below. "We are free." #HorrorWritersChat

I’m late primarily because I had no idea this was a thing until it popped up in my feed. I’ve written a bunch of ghost stories that have never seen human eyes other than my own. I’m working on a book that will likely have the same fate. #HorrorWritersChat

They stood in the clearing, moss underfoot. The solstice sunrise shined a lazy orange glow across their faces. They picked up their shovels and turned to go home, glancing at the mound of dirt that she lied beneath. #horrorwriterschat

#horrorwriterschat Had a blast this week! I just contributed to two wonderful anthologies if anyone would like to check them out! linktr.ee/WillowNichol...

I'm a scientist turned author writing short stories, novels + most recently a memoir of pregnancy and childbirth. When my first stories came out, readers called it psychological horror but, that's just my life... and how I process the strangeness of reality through fiction. #HorrorWritersChat

It’s June 31st We are still waiting For the sun Watching the northeast horizon Until our eyes grow bloodshot One blink One word And we’ve lost it We’ve imprisoned ourselves in waiting It’s June 32nd And still The solstice sun Will not rise #HorrorWritersChat

Based on crowd-sourced records of No Kings Day event turnout, and extrapolating for the cities where we don't have data yet, it looks like roughly 4-6 million people protested Trump across the U.S. yesterday. That's nearly 2% of the U.S. pop! Mobilized anti-Trump resistance is exceeding 2017 levels

BREAKING: A federal judge ruled all transgender and intersex people can obtain passports that align with their gender identity while the case against President Trump's executive order proceeds. While this is good news, we will continue fighting until this executive order is blocked permanently.

It's Pride Month! Quote with a queer character. 🏳️‍🌈

“I would be blind not to call it out. It is my duty to call it out.” More of this, please. Incredible news out of the courts today as Judge Young calls out this administration’s discrimination against our vulnerable communities and orders the restoration of NIH grants.

A federal judge in Boston ordered the National Institutes of Health to restore billions of federal research dollars terminated in recent months by the Trump administration.

2,169 events across 20 countries. Millions of peope are standing up tomorrow to say with one voice: No Kings!

Everyone in the streets today ✊ #teslatakedown #nokings #protest

ICE is creating fear and chaos in our communities. People are right to be angry, and they have every right to assemble peacefully and exercise free speech against the actions of this administration. Enough is enough.

Two books on American black history that I just finished. “Wayward Lives” is vivid, powerful, and *gorgeously* written. “Discovering” is important for anyone who has been fed the “oops all whites” narrative about northern New England. #booksky 💙📚

63% of American adults had unfavorable views of Martin Luther King Jr in August 1966, per Gallup surveys 46% of Mississippi GOP voters said interracial marriage should be illegal in a 2011 PPP poll to push w/e is popular instead of trying to popularize justice is to admit you lack moral leadership

Lessons of the world: I am at fault for everything and no one is on my side.

I attended a @healthjournalism.org panel on trans healthcare, and I really appreciate the comment that it's not right to put more scrutiny on trans healthcare treatment in the media than it is for other types of treatment (brain fog makes me forget who made the comment but it's in my notes!)

The idea that this kind of armed presence is necessary in Great Barrington - a quaint Berkshires town of artists, aging hippies, and retired dentists - is insane. These agents are dressed like paramilitaries, not police officers. www.berkshireeagle.com/breaking/ice...

It’s not Target’s shitty Pride merch. It’s the *implications* of the shitty merch. Hate crimes are increasing, governments are picking fights with trans people, and now corporations are deciding that rainbow dollars are no longer worth the risk. We are backsliding fast, and *that* is terrifying.

kind of obsessed with 2025 pride merch...I'm calling it cowardcore.

I don’t give a shit about Target, but the broader implications of this year’s Pride merch scare me.

I’m sick and tired of emails saying “Take ACTION. Give us $5 right now.” My wife and I can’t afford *health insurance.* If that’s going to prevent you from doing anything good, then that’s a you problem.

"'ICE called and asked if they were still in custody, and we said, "we don’t cooperate with ICE,”' Elow said. 'They waited outside of our police station, and when the person was released on bail, they picked them up.' 'So ICE is very active,' she added." #CambMA #mapoli

Does anyone on BookSky 💙📚 have recommendations for books (fiction, nonfiction, any genre, preferably authors of color) about a person of color growing up in a predominantly white community?

if you think "intersectionality" is a buzzword, you never knew what that word meant or how it is meant to be used in the first place. I'm fine with Democrats not appropriating language they never actually appreciated or lived up to.

Have to also state that this is most commonly directed towards women. Working in this space for many years has shown me as well that expectations for women, hormonal changes, and relationship dynamics make the experience of ADHD so much worse than what most men deal with.

Trump spent all of Memorial Day bragging about his own accomplishments without mentioning fallen soldiers even once. Here’s why 2/3 of veterans will continue to vote for him no matter what he says or does.
