🚨 After more than three months, Columbia University is no longer frozen out of NIH funds, per source. Terminated grants will not (yet) be reinstated, but money should begin flowing otherwise, I'm told.

I am begging anyone in the music press to do a piece on climate breakdown in America. I will help you research. You could talk to musicians who have been displaced. Venues that have been destroyed. Artists who make work on this stuff. Use your platform to talk to scientists & educate people.

What if we had "batting averages" in science? 😬

"Thousands"? 😆

We had a great kick-off site visit with our NHP teams at the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, and John Hopkins University! Thank you all so much for hosting us! @adamhantman.bsky.social @raeedcho.bsky.social @cmu.edu

Using classical and molecular genetics along with various tools of cell biology, we show how reduction in a specific membrane lipid species impacts intracellular trafficking but also corrects a compartmental defect resulting from the depletion of a NimA family kinase.

Nice thread

Highly recommended!!!

Interesting. New NOT taking back the DEI restrictions. At least for now: grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

Ok, time for a short thread about this paper. My sense over the past six months or so is that chain-of-thought prompting as used in e.g. ChatGPT o.3 improves substantially upon previous systems such as ChatGPT 4.o, at least for certain tasks. But how revolutionary is it?

Amen

At the ICE raid and subsequent community resistance in Paramount, California this morning, this skater kid ate dozens of munitions from Border Patrol agents, walked away slowly and flipped them off.

🙋‍♀️ 👋🚨 Two of my grad students had their NIH Diversity Supplements abruptly cancelled. We plan to appeal. We'd love to coordinate with other folks w/ cancelled grants. Does this already exist? If not, could we start a Slack, email or text thread, or shared Google Drive to share appeals & strategize?

The Royal Society is offering £4 million per researcher for scientists in the USA who want to move to the UK. The money offered is £30 million in all for all the Fellowships. These Faraday Fellowships are for 5 to 10 years.

Lost in much of the national conversation have been voices of thoughtful Christians who see welcoming the stranger as essential to their faith.

Please send recommendations for great papers that bring cognitive neuroscience closer the real world. It’s for an undergrad seminar course on “Cognitive Neuroscience for the Real World” and a review article. Empirical, theoretical, or review; broad or specific to subfields of cogneuro. Thanks!

1. Over the past four months I've talked with many foundation directors about science philanthropy during Trump 2.0. Two things come to the fore every time. i) The most important they can do is maintain the pipeline of talent ii) With the federal govt pulling out, ROI is higher now than ever.

Excited to share some new results that show how retinotopic mapping of disparity in mouse visual areas totally falls apart with monocular deprivation (MD). We also show how that disorganization results in depth discrimination deficits in the MD mice. #neuroscience www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Important thread. I submitted a comment - please consider doing the same.
