Drove past a lorry full of calves on the motorway. One looked straight at me. They all looked terrified. These will be veal calves, ripped apart from their mothers at a tiny age, and forced onto a lorry to their death. I couldn't help but cry. I don't know how anyone can think this is acceptable.

Pretty proud of myself that, despite having a joint connectivity issue (Ehlers Danlos Syndrome), I've ascended and descended over 12,000 ft (3,650m) this week! 💪🏔🚶‍♀️ This might not sound a lot to an able-bodied person, but it's quite an achievement for me 😊 #EDS #Hypermobility ♿️

Putting land claiming on the map reveals that the footprint of agricultural frontiers extends far into seemingly ‘intact’ forests. New paper by @o-delgiorgio.bsky.social in PNAS @pnas.org www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/... @matthiasbaumann.bsky.social @tkuemmerle.bsky.social @yannlepolain.bsky.social

Absolutely horrifying. Palestinians gunned down while trying to access food. Leaders across the world have a duty to speak out against these continuing atrocities. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/j...

Bottom trawling isn't just hugely destructive – it’s also unsustainably expensive. 💸 A ban in the UK’s offshore marine protected areas could deliver up to £3.5 billion in benefits over 20 years, while being 3X cheaper to enforce! It's time for a ban 👉 act.for-the-ocean.org/act/protect-...

An interesting fern from Teesdale at the weekend with a noticeable dark spot extending up costa. Wondering if it is a contender for Alpine Male-fern (Dryopteris lacunosa)? Any fern folk out there able to confirm/deny? 🙏 #ferns @bsbibotany.bsky.social

Tragic to hear of the loss of 2 British hikers who died in the Dolomites in Jan, but glad their bodies have been recovered. We hiked the exact same mountain the day the final hiker's body was found a few days ago, and even in June, we were trudging through 2 ft of snow www.bbc.com/news/article...
