I write about tech, especially PKMs (personal knowledge managers), research, productivity, and AI. I especially focus on tools I use regularly such as Logseq and Obsidian.

While @obsidian.md doesn't have the equivalent of Logseq's NewTags, you can create a page template and apply it to existing pages - the page template properties will be applied. Works fairly well.

Here's a tip on how to get started. (Documentation is still sparse.) After creating a new base, use the "filter" menu to set it which pages to include, and the "property" menu to choose what columns to display. (Continued)

all your base are belong to *you*

Sad at the demise of Pocket, which used to be "read it later" and was one of the first (the first?) app in that category. I use @readwise.bsky.social now, but was still recommending Pocket as a good free option to my students. Shame @mozilla.org wasn't able to give it the home it deserved.

I wrote a detailed post over in the #Logseq forums explaining how to use NewTags in LogseqDB, with examples from my own workflow.

If you are curious about the new database version of Logseq, but don't want to test it yourself, @hdanzu.bsky.social has you covered with a one-hour-long video tour:

Just beginning to appreciate what is possible with Claude AI's Model Context Protocols. Here's a quick start guide:

Not much use posting this here, but . . . If your company is still on X, I probably don't want to do business with you.

Hyperspace is a useful MacOS utility. Pricing is nice too. Since you will probably only use it once in a long while, you can purchase a license for just one month without a subscription. I saved about 60GB using it. Worth $10, I think...

Is anyone building a decent alternative to Facebook? Bluesky is even better than Twitter/X before it got enshittified, but I don't know of anything similar for Facebook ...

I’ve been testing out a new app called WillowVoice, which is really amazing at voice dictation. Unlike Apple’s built-in dictation, you can do things like make corrections midway or restart a sentence, and the app will be intelligent enough to not write everything twice and to make the corrections.

It seems that within a few weeks the #logseq team will be merging the database DB build into the existing Markdown MD app. The way it will work is that they will run in the same desktop app, but each graph can be either MD or DB. This should bring some overdue bug fixes to the MD app as well.

Something I've been wondering about: Why new AI tools still struggle with PDFs and OCR

I'm going to have to work really hard not to get distracted by the potential to write my own apps with Claude. I'm the kind of person who will spend three days to make an app that will save me 5 minutes, and now I have a tool that will allow me to do that for any problem I think of!

And another Claude Sonnet 3.7 project! I wanted to be able to make something like the track-changes feature in Word or Google Docs, but using Markdown code. Claude made me a simple HTML interface to do this that gets the job done. It will even jump to the text if you click on the suggestion panel.

Today's project: Have you ever needed to launch an app you know you have but forgotten the name? With the help of ClaudeAI I was able to write a @raycast.com extension that uses AI to suggest apps in your Applications folder which you might wish to use.

I love the iPhone mirroring feature, but it is very annoying because your phone must both be locked and unlocked at the same time. That is, your phone must be on the lock screen, but unlocked. It can be difficult to get the phone into just the right state, like putting a baby to sleep.

This problem, in which Apple Mail pops up unexpectedly and uses large amounts of CPU power in the background, has been around for over 6 years and still hasn't been solved. (It is happening to me now.)

So I'm now using rclone to backup my Google Drive to Koofr. It works pretty well, but I was getting lots of error messages with large files. Somehow it seems that Google's API doesn't handle multithreading well with large files. Adding this to the sync command fixes the problem: --transfers=1

My next step in moving off of Dropbox and (eventually) Google Drive, is to backup my existing online storage to @koofr.net They don't offer cloud-to-cloud sync. You can manually copy files between cloud files, but in my experience this is unreliable for copying many files at once.
