We are oddly selective about the government services about which we will say, they operate at a loss. Commuter rail, we are often told, operates at a loss. But we spend even more on street and highways, and take in little direct revenue from them. Yet no one ever says they are operating at a loss.

ADHD hack: if 0 object permanence means there are spaces you only realize need cleaning when you are in them (e.g. the shower, your car), leave the cleaning tools in that space so you can do it when you notice it. A scrub brush and castile soap live in my shower and consequently my shower is clean

Small house, single dweller hack: buy lemon juice and make lemonade in the desired amounts as needed. Cheaper, takes up less fridge/pantry space, can customize sweetness, use sparkling or still water as the mood strikes AND generates significantly less plastic waste

In today’s pond drama, we have 9 new baby Wood Ducks, Fred the heron is till trying to hunt babies (unsuccessfully so far, thank god), and a territorial red-winged blackbird just attacked a Canada goose that tried to climb the dam (1-0 in favor of the blackbird)
