Some classic breweries of San Diego

Excellent dinner with Eric Rodez last night showcasing his range of champagnes. The 2013 empreinte in particular were superb - incredibly expressive and a v long life ahead of them! Also treated with a superb 2010 clos de beze from drouhin laroze 😍 thanks to vins Clairs for putting it all together!

A day in the South Downs - squeezed a few beers around the 20km walk

Spending the weekend down in lewes, obviously went down to get some Harvey’s first. Dill restaurant has some v good dishes and liked the vibe but there’s definitely a few things to iron out there

Had a friend visiting for some food and cycling - took the opportunity to fire up the grill for the first time this year 280km cycling 1 x 750g t-bone 2 x burgers (home made brioche buns) 6 lamb chops, 2 kofta kebabs, 2 chicken legs Marinda & iberiko tomatoes Lots of asparagus & gem lettuce

Soho historians will be delighted to know that pickle and toast is finally going to be fully open summer 2025 according to a sign on the door. I remember it took many years for it to open briefly for a couple of months and checking google reviews those months were in 2018 🤔

sounds bloody useful tbh

Cycled over to one of the best pubs on the planet, the white horse inn, edwardstone, which is attached to little earth brewery. Superb tap selection especially for wild/sour/mixed ferm beers 😀

Kicking off the weekend with a big ear - I usually make bread over a 24hr period (mix/bulk ferment/shape morning->evening, rest overnight and bake next day) but I wanted a loaf for this evening so sped things along by increasing bulk fermentation temp to 26-27C

Casual Sunday! Some notes in the alt text. Don’t often get to try ulysse collin these days which is a shame!

Some excellent seafood at entremar for lunch today - menu is identical to contramar but a bit easier to get in. I probably should have double checked the price of the soft shell crab tacos before ordering though 😬

Also had another great breakfast at boulenc, a decent lunch at levandura de olla and a few cocktails at Selva which were excellent

Visited monte alban today - an incredible archeological site 20mins from the centre of Oaxaca. It’s genuinely one of the most impressive places you could visit on the planet, and it feels like it’s barely been discovered, there were probably only 100-150 people there when I visited!

Spent today exploring mezcal around Oaxaca in Santiago Matalan. Tried a selection at both an artesenal mezcal and an ancestral, the latter being distilled in clay pots. Also tried some pulque! Two very intimidating guard dogs were also present

Not sure how but the met office and apple weather are totally misaligned on the temperature in Oaxaca - been the same every day. Pretty sure met office is the one in the wrong as it doesn’t feel that hot..
