"Simpson's gender-equality paradox" surely deserve some award for best title 👑 The gender-equality paradox seems really central to some narrative people have constructed (and successfully sold). I absolutely wouldn't be surprised if it turned out 100% confounding.> www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

I often see Ioannidis' paper 'Why most published research findings are false' on reading lists. And by all means - I found it educational when I first read it. But you might also want a summary of the criticisms on the paper, and we dive into these in our @nulliusinverba.bsky.social podcast episode.

Entendu à un colloque: selon une enquête faite sur un échantillon français (supposé représentatif), on arrête d’être jeune à 42 ans et on devient âgé à 64 ans…

It can be interesting to read why so many psychological scientists have raised concerns - which twice led to a crisis - about (social) psychology for over half a century. There are important lessons we can learn from our history about why these concerns have not been solved.

Great talk by @rritabajraktari.bsky.social at @bapsciences.bsky.social 2025, with a proud supervisor @olivierklein.bsky.social!

Academic freedom in the United States has found itself periodically under siege, but the current attacks from the federal government raise a new level of alarm. nyer.cm/u405qvQ

The mods of r/ChangeMyView shared the sub was the subject of a study to test the persuasiveness of LLMs & that they didn't consent. There’s a lot that went wrong, so here’s a 🧵 unpacking it, along with some ideas for how to do research with online communities ethically. tinyurl.com/59tpt988

Four large Dutch universities, including Leiden University where I work, have decided to throw international psychology bachelor programs under the bus in an effort to appease the rightwing government. Here's my blog why this is a terrible idea. eiko-fried.com/cutting-inte...

You may be fearing your 401k is no longer enough for you to retire. But with all the cuts to NIH and Medicare you also won't live as long. So the policies are integrated.

I’m just sayin’. St Augustine FL is a town of 14,000. In a red county. And we’re doing this. #handsoff #50501 #April5 AND we have some spicy signs!

Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive. No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief. 1/ A 🧵 to explain his plan and how we fight back.

This is, in large part, pandemic revenge. As far as these oligarchs are concerned, all science does is tell them stuff they cannot do. They can't keep spewing carbon. They can't keep businesses open as usual when millions are dying. They have concluded that research is the enemy of profit.

Important to realize that Trump’s approach to Canada and Greenland is like his approach to Ukraine. It’s not even simply American imperialism. It is America enabling Russian imperialism. (1/3)

New blog post! In which I explain the issue with mediation analysis and sketch out one way to deal with the underlying causal inference problem -- in just a bit over 1,000 words! If you have never found the time to read up on this, now is your chance. www.the100.ci/2025/03/20/r...

Huge protests against Orban in Budapest.

If you let the executive deport people to a foreign gulag just by pronouncing the word “terrorism,” then expect to be called a “terrorist” soon yourself.

Posting tonight ti shine a light on what the Alien Enemies Act looks like IRL. Our @immdef.bsky.social client fled Venezuela last year & came to US to seek asylum. He has a strong claim. He was detained upon entry because ICE alleged his tattoos are gang related. They are absolutely not. 🧵

This is my experience, although I found biking to the train instead of driving made me pretty happy too.

The American people stand with #Ukraine! Pleased to join thousands of supporters of Ukraine unfurling the world’s largest Ukrainian flag in front of the White House. The administration’s policy of appeasement does not represent the will of the American people. #StandWithUkraine

Yes, these are ridiculous. But we must also defend more "woke" grants caught in Cruz's net, like my PhD student's NSF dissertation grant on how air monitoring does not serve the needs of (mostly Black) people the most polluted zip codes. It was funded through peer review and is hugely important.
