Quite apart from the fact that 2 hours minus 2 minutes is not 58 minutes: These people are fucking idiots. The point of reading, or any other form of intellectual enquiry, is that you don't always know what is interesting until you start looking. Acquiring knowledge is not an engineering problem.

I'm going to uncritically support the No Kings march (from the comfort of my home 3000 miles away from the US) today. It will be a sea of cringe centrist signs and chants, but at least they're finally getting up and actually *doing* something. Tomorrow is the time for arguing about protest tactics.

What's happened in Los Angeles looks horrendous and it may well get worse but honestly the community response is *not* what the administration wants. The far right want an obedient, supine, cowed population, the only good response to fascism is resistance.

Five years ago today Ella and I went to the centre for a Black Lives Matter demonstration and witnessed history as a bunch of people tore down a monument celebrating the slave trader Edward Colston. The statue was dragged though the streets and dumped in the same waters where his ships made harbour.
