My article titled 'Reconsidering Schlick's critique of Husserl' is now published in Husserl Studies. rdcu.be/eq1vL #philsky #philsci #academicsky #hps

A new CJEU Advocate-General's opinion argues that EU border agency Frontex can effectively be held liable for participating in unlawful returns by Member States. Analysis by @kunsta.bsky.social - eulawanalysis.blogspot.com/2025/06/the-...

One thing I've learned in various crises I've been through or witnessed is that support and disappointment, backup and betrayal, will both often come from unexpected places.

oh my GOD???

What is common knowledge in your field but shocks outsiders? “Falsifiability” does not demarcate science from non-science.

It's cool you just need like 4 subscriptions to watch one sport

Gonna level with you bro I think DHS needs to be dissolved after this. Regardless of what national security functions fall under its remit, it's clearly institutionally constructed in such a way allows it to be used as an unaccountable tool of executive power. Can't reform your way out of that.

I mostly interact with them via API and command-line utilities (hooked up to the APIs) so yeah this tracks.

yes they are. they are christians and you have to deal with that

I hope New Yorkers take note that Cuomo is the only candidate refusing to stand up to Trump’s goon squad

More and more Europeans now recognise that their small, individual nations cannot withstand simultaneous pressure from both Washington and Moscow. Yet their political leaders fail to mobilize that public sentiment. Here’s why and what to do about it www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Brad has been released and the crowd breaks into a chant of “Free them all.”

for @hubrisdog.bsky.social 🐾💮☀️

I still can't get past the idea that people in America are now supposed to accept that this is a valid form of law enforcement and just assume it's fine when random dudes in groups with face-coverings, no ID, no warrant, & no uniform grab people off the street and force them into unmarked vehicles

For a lot of relatively comfortable Americans, electing an emotionally incontinent imbecile was a bit of entertainment. A game. Good sport, owning those libs. I hope they’re duly entertained.

What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders? Most tech companies are not affirmatively evil, and are filled with thoughtful folks trying to solve problems while building tools people actually enjoy using

Thread.

Hot take, but conservative or reactionary Catholicism has been able to get away with far too much in the US even on the left in part due to a lack of the form of anticlericalism that historically Catholic countries like Italy and France have.

NYC Comptroller Brad Lander was just arrested by Trump’s ICE agents because he asked to see a judicial warrant. This is fascism and all New Yorkers must speak in one voice. Release him now.

What? Ed Zitron has been wrong about everything. In fact I want a Zitron reader to tell me one single thing he's ever been right about about. He said OpenAI was closing by end of 2023, then by end of 2024. He said they'd never be able to serve Sora to public.

ICE arresting the NYPD is introducing deep quantum uncertainty into the Cool Zone

"You don't have the authority to arrest US citizens who are asking to see a judicial warrant." NYC mayoral candidate Brad Lander being arrested *along with a member of his NYPD security team* by ICE.

Very good. If this wind holds we'll have them well before dark. Clear for action and then pipe the hands to dinner. Art by @infurnationale.bsky.social

Striking how fears of an outbreak of international violence spiraling into major war and pulling in the US are more muted now, despite the heightened risk. NatSec experts have their hair on fire, but the right isn't blaring bad faith accusations, and without that, the press is saying it less too.

“Afakafaka Aho Mahita” (“I spy with my little eye…”) Holy crap, I really spent over two months of this one, most of which was trying to get those damn reeds right. Also, this is inspired by something I saw as a kid that made me go “WAIT A MINUTE” in my late thirties. #ErkhyanArt #FurryArt #NSFW

Took months of work, but @aagilli.bsky.social and I are proud to bring you a paper that deals with the true elephant in the room: Should the EU equip itself with a nuclear deterrent, and if so, how? www.bruegel.org/working-pape...

This is 100% true. And almost every single one stems not from purely technical failures, but failures in the human chain of command declaring that the risk of not mitigating the attack vector was acceptable.

I understand the frustration, and this is happening in parts of Italy too, but the solution to the real estate problem is to build more housing + an Airbnb ban. And more generally, tourist taxes can be increased to control numbers if that's a problem in itself. Not harassing random visitors.

What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders? With almost no exceptions, every single cybersecurity breach occurs via mechanisms the technology industry knows how to fully and robust defend against, but didn't

If Israel continues to attack Iran, repeatedly exposing the weakness of Tehran's conventional deterrence, Iran has a strong incentive to put together a rudimentary nuclear weapon.

E la cosa inconcepibile è che sembra non interessi a nessuno sacrificare una delle più grandi conquiste di civiltà dell'UE all'altare del delirio securitario-reazionario in cui siamo tutti immersi

Wow - looks like the real VDL is back Mega-hawkish speech on China at G7 - accuses it of intentionally making the world reliant on rare earths "We are seeing a new China shock - as China's economy slows down, Beijing floods global markets with subsidised overcapacity its own market cannot absorb"
