The Group for High Resolution Sea Surface Temperature has now a bluesky account ! Welcome here @ghrsst.bsky.social !

Today, we'd like to introduce you to our local manager at the @knmi.nl : Anton Verhoef. He's responsible for our #ocean surface #wind products. To learn more , check this video ▶️ youtu.be/9KpcL9gRgaY

Our sea-ice index provides data visualisations that can be used directly by journalists. Here an example (in french) ! with: @gwenbras.bsky.social www.futura-sciences.com/planete/actu...

Our #seaice team has developed a Sea Ice Index, online since several years, at osisaf-hl.met.no/v2p2-sea-ice.... It offers visuals of the trends and evolution of sea ice at hemispheric, global and regional scales. It includes the sea-ice extent and area since 1978, and is continuously updated.

That's terrible news to read. For us documenting #SeaIce, having colleagues that share comparable data obtained by different algorithms is a form of quality assessment of our own data. It is a terrible loss for us as it is for our whole user community. @eumetsat.int @nsidc.bsky.social

Sea ice data on @polarportal.bsky.social is from European @osi-saf.eumetsat.int group, sea ice thickness + Greenland surface mass balance is from @dmidk.bsky.social's operational models + #GRACE satellite data is from our partners @dtucryo.bsky.social as part of @esaclimate.bsky.social ❄️🥼⚒️🧪⛏️🌊

Learn how to use surface topography mission data to support ocean forecasting in our upcoming short course 🌊 Experts will walk you through various data sets for ocean forecasters, provide practical examples, & explain how the data sets are incorporated into their systems 🌐 🗓 7 May 🔗 bit.ly/43Ph17G

Monday 07/04, @noaa.gov has change operationnal satellite on GOES-East position. Last files from GOES-16 for our GOES-East Sea Surface Temperature and Radiative fluxes products were the 14:00 UTC. Our SST product resumed with GOES-19 data at 16:00 UTC, while our RF products have been discontinued.

Discontinuation of @osisaf.bsky.social SAF GOES-East radiative fluxes products (OSI-305-b and OSI-306-b) tomorrow, see osi-saf.eumetsat.int/community/li...

On last tuesday (04/03/2025), we released a new version of our Sea Ice Emissivity (OSI-404-b) and of our Global Low Resolution Sea Ice Drift (OSI-405-d) products. For more details about the new version, consult the product description page : osi-saf.eumetsat.int/products/sea...

Sea ice is missing along the entire Arctic ice edge, both in the Atlantic and Pacific sectors, causing a record-low ice extent in February 2025. Source: @osisaf.bsky.social data.

In the past months, we've been updating our knowledge about our users, and we got some new answers ! Thanks to every one of you that took the time to communicate with us. On our website, we tried to summarize what we know about our users. Learn more there : osi-saf.eumetsat.int/community/st...

🤗 The Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research has made it to Bluesky! Give it a 'follow': @awiexpedition.bsky.social

Global Sea Ice extent in the arctic is at record low since several days. We never recorded that few Sea Ice on earth since the beginning of satellite Sea Ice Extent measurement in 1978.

It is also worth noting that the northward drift northeast of Greenland is leading to less ice and even areas of open water. 🌊🧪🥼❄️⚒️

Today we'd like to present you one of our regular users : Dr Fab from @oceandatalab.bsky.social . He's using our geostationnary based SST products to follow the ocean fronts. to learn more , check this video ▶️ youtu.be/QbDQyj5rxHE

Here is what this sea ice change looks like in graph form around Svalbard in the #Arctic (available from cryo.met.no/en/sea-ice-i... using @osisaf.bsky.social data).

Great opportunity to improve your skills on ocean remote sensing! 🌊

Looking at 2023 as a whole, the anomaly of Antarctic sea-ice concentration has been far more negative than postive most places. * 8 months in 2023 had record-low sea-ice extent! * 3 months was 2nd lowest, * 1 month 3rd lowest. 🧪⚒️

And the Arctic sea-ice extent for December 2023 came out as the 10th lowest on record. ⚒️🧪

The Antarctic sea-ice extent for December 2023 came out as the 2nd lowest on record. 🧪⚒️

All the sea ice on our planet --> a systematic development 📉: * The 1990s had less ice than the 1980s; * The 2000s had less ice than the 1990s; * The 2010 had less ice than the 2000s; * and 2023 is just way below the others. Source: sea-ice index v2.2
