Oh man do NOT get me started on this 99% of modern UX is framed as "visual problem solving" and "usability" which translates to "the business creates a shitty system and we solve some of those problems on the interface layer." Solving problems *you created* is net negative value.

So I work with this lady Katrina, and I always want to yell “HERE COMES THE HURRICANE BITCH” when we get on a Zoom call together but she’s British and I’m not 100% sure she’d know the reference lol

Nature ran a piece finding that 25 million people could die as a result of ending USAID. This puts Trump and Musk in the category of the most brutal leaders of the 20th century in terms of unnecessary lives lost. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

💛💛💛

It’s not even that problematic really!

We unpack how targeting Chinese student visas could hurt US universities' finances & American innovation in 5 charts. With Liyan Qi, Ming Li. So, 1 in every 4 international students comes from China. They make a larger share at some elite schools👇 t.co/zbxOCHiAsj

Democrats fail on transgender rights messaging because, like you, they lack moral conviction to see it as more than a political battlefield. It’s less the issue that there are *extremist* languagepolice or whatever, but more that ppl like you only care about how to win votes rather than save lives.

“Remigration is a series of policy proposals, drafted by Austrian Identitarian and former neo-Nazi Martin Sellner, to end the so-called ‘replacement’ by purging the continent of non-white people and eliminating all forms of multiculturalism. The goal is to make countries ‘European again.’”

Which is to say a lot of foreign students have been coming to the US despite it being a preeetty bad deal for them all around, to see them as any kind of burden and threat is absurd to the extreme.

It’s in fact still 2020

I hope that 11 yo who sang Moana to a captive audience of Delta flyers on a delayed flight never learns how many tens of thousands of people are dragging her (and her mom’s) ass rn, that would destroy me. (to be clear I also would not have sang Moana)

I pre-ordered a lounge chair a few months back to be delivered today and the company just emailed me about how due to tariffs we have to scramble for alternative manufacturing and your delivery date has been move back by 6 months 🫠 That was supposed to be my nursing chair for next month y’all

I know a lot of y’all still think Rubio is a pro-democracy ally for Chinese dissidents. Wake👏the👏fuck👏up, he’s a racist sinophobic psycho. www.latimes.com/california/s...

Texas police say they used Flock to search for a woman they believed had had a self-administered abortion for her "safety." I call bullshit. www.404media.co/a-texas-cop-...

It’s easy to support your local business when lunch specials look like this :D

I know it’s not cool and I should “read another book” (I have an MFA, I have read many other books) but I’m genuinely bummed out I’m not going to be able to share Harry Potter with my daughter because Rowling is funding advocacy to make her didi and people like her didi’s lives worse.

It’s weird to scroll “Andor” fandom stuff and see people say “Luthen did nothing wrong.” Like, loving a great, complex character doesn’t mean their actions are all righteous??? Why can’t we just sit with the incredibly layered depiction of his humanity?

I saw the new “Karate Kid” trailer, saw Joshua Jackson in it, and briefly wondered if it’s a crossover with “The Mighty Ducks” lol. That would be fun 🤪

In The Trouble of Color, I wrote about discovering my grandmother’s hair in Harvard’s Peabody Museum. It still haunts me. I salute Tamara Lanier who persisted in her quest to win control of her ancestor’s images from the same museum — and prevailed! www.nytimes.com/2025/05/28/h...

Another reason why Rubio’s announcement is ridiculous: so many people have these kinds of connections to the party that are basically formalities or requirements for study/employment. This is not a carefully vetted security operation. This is an indiscriminate ban, and it’s incredibly bad policy.

lol I have news for Rubio wrt this little requirement for ascending to the second grade in China.

Now is their chance to be like, fuck it, deal’s off. Go fuck yourself.

I’ve been reading about the history of the American civil rights movement lately and my main takeaway has been “hoo boy, we gotta get our shit together on the left because we are embarrassingly sloppy in comparison right now”

I wrote about keeping strictly kosher for the first 20 years of my life... and how it still doesn't seem as byzantine, amoral and intimidating as Trump's would-be Surgeon General's byzantine dietary laws: buttondown.com/theswordandt...

FAFO are also known as “life lessons,” people can’t learn if you tell them, “it wasn’t your fault, buddy."

endlessly confusing that a president's mental acuity is in the news and it's not trump

Why do grapes make sense in a chicken salad? I made one because of pregnancy cravings and I can’t seem to wrap my brain around mayo + celery + onion + grapes + mustard and why this all works.
