“They were careless people…they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness…and let other people clean up the mess they had made…” -- F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby (April 10, 1925).

A reminder that if the government can send migrants to a prison camp without any due process, it can send U.S. citizens there, too. I know because this happened to me and my family in 1942.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A “TRADE DEFICIT”—IT’S JUST CALLED “BUYING THINGS.” YOU DO NOT HAVE A TRADE DEFICIT WITH YOUR DENTIST JUST BECAUSE HE NEVER BUYS ANYTHING FROM YOU.

To me the most importing thing about today is that they knew what this would do to the market, and did it anyway. If nothing else, that ought to tell you what time it is.

I hope Wall Street has figured out two things: 1. Trump is a disaster for the U.S. economy. 2. There is no price at which many of us would ever buy a Tesla. I wouldn't take it for free with a $5,000 rebate. I think they have an inkling of the first but are still in denial about the second.

Maybe next time let’s not elect someone who runs because they’re trying to not go to jail?

Russia gets no Trump tariffs. Intriguing. In fairness to Russia, its only exports are death, misery, chaos, war crimes, and despair…and we’re fully supplied by the Trump Administration for those.

I'm not a programming guy but MSNBC and CNN should be airing this Cory Booker thing in the same way you take over programming if there's a no-hitter or a basketball player with 60 points in three quarters. It's a physical feat! Cut in for this kind of thing. Costs nothing, gooses ratings, good TV.

Yep

People are taking things into their own hands

Corrupt judges let a criminal get away with treason and run for president. Propagandists masquerading as journalists lied to enough people that the criminal won. Then the criminal sold a half share in the presidency to the world's richest man, whom no one voted for. That's what happened, folks.

Dear American citizens, whatever you wish more German citizens would have done in 1933, do that now.

America was given a choice between a lawless, amoral monster and a qualified, intelligent, joyful woman of color—and it chose the monster. We need to reckon with the reality of what that says about so many of us here. johnpavlovitz.substack.com/p/america-ch...

the people who told you to calm down about Roe are the same people telling you to calm down about Social Security, in case you hadn't noticed

Explosive grassroots energy on the ground. Last weekend, 1000s of volunteers across Wisconsin knocked on more than 2x as many doors as we’d knocked during the equivalent week in 2023. Join us. National phone banks, in-Wisconsin canvassing. Sign up at peoplevmusk.org

When will Orange Jesus start naming everything after himself by executive order? The Washington Monument would become the Trump Monument. What city would be Trumpograd? Dulles Airport named after him? Aircraft carriers? National Parks? Kennedy Center? State of Florida?Arlington? I’m thinking April.

Paul Weiss is the Marco Rubio of law firms.

No means No

I want you to understand this is happening in our name and we know most of these men committed no crimes. One is a professional soccer player who was tortured in Venezuela and was working through asylum in the U.S. ICE shipped him for his Real Madrid tattoo and a picture throwing rock & roll horns.

Now that Trump has proven to be a ruthless autocrat, too many have grown timid and silent. That is simply not who I am. It is not what I believe, and it is not what I will do. Instead, I will worry. I will hope. And I will fight. www.democracydocket.com/opinion/i-wo...
