BIG, led by Bjarke Ingels, is designing three minimalist villas with Not A Hotel on Japan’s Sagishima Island. Blending Japanese and Scandinavian styles, the circular villas feature natural materials, panoramic ocean views, and organic integration with the landscape. Completion is set for 2026.

I saw this strip in a book as a kid, but not until coming across it again today did I understand the context of what we now celebrate as Mid-Century Modern Design but what in 1953, when this first appeared in newspapers, was simply called modern or contemporary furniture or, perhaps, just furniture.
