I had been meaning to watch Diabolique for years. Did not disappoint. #letterboxdfriday #lastfourwatched

Ceremony shots from this year's Doug Wright Awards. (Photos by Jeff Speed.)

Saw the Phoenician Scheme the day after TCAF in Mississauga with my girlfriend's parents. Everyone found the movie very funny. It was also pretty poignant. Happy I got to see it in theatres. #lastfourwatched #letterboxdfriday

Endless Summer wast the first album I ever obsessed over. I even love Be True to Your School.

Finally, my dream of being featured in someone's diary comic has been achieved! Thanks for letting me know this was me when I bought it today @patrickallaby.bsky.social. If you're in Toronto this weekend, go buy his books at TCAF!

I'm going to be selling my new book at @torontocomics.bsky.social at the Mattamy ice rink this weekend on June 7 + 8. I'll be at table 239 with @laurakwatson.bsky.social. Saturday evening, I will be at the @dougwrightawards.bsky.social, where Customer Service is up for the Pigskin Peters Award .

Here's my #lastforwatched for #letterboxdfriday. 4 stars for the Apprentice is probably the max I'll ever give it. I like Inland Empire more with each viewing. Maybe next time it will be 5 stars. Maria Braun's not my favourite Fassbinder, but it's an complete masterpiece.

My obsession with Bob Dylan was started by his eyes in this video. I first encountered this footage on a VHS tape my dad had called something like "Rolling Stone presents 25 years of rock and roll" youtu.be/YwSZvHqf9qM?...

Bob Dylan's 84 today. Here's a classic show from 1984. Tour finale. Wild energy. Bono doesn't seem to know Blowin' in the Wind. Van Morrison's also there. youtu.be/TzCZ-JeGDls?...

Forgot to do this on Friday, so here are my #lastfourwatched #letterboxd. To be clear, I do not think Zemeckis and Godard are on the same level. I had some issues with Le Petit Soldat (but keep thinking about it), and was caught off guard by how much Here moved me (despite its flaws).

Meet three of the nominees for this year's Pigskin Peters: The Doug Wright Award for best small- or micro-press book! Then meet the winner at the 21st annual Doug Wright Awards, June 7th, at the Arts & Letters Club, in Toronto. 1/2

In other news, I'm very excited to see Bob Dylan again in September. I don't imagine he'll still be doing Rainy Night In Soho then, but this is a pretty exciting start to a tour. I would be happy to hear Under the Red Sky and Forgetful Heart.

I was really expecting Andor to miss the landing. It feels weird to have a Star Wars TV show be this consistent and focused, and to really know what it's about from start to finish.

I loved how much Sinners added to the Vampire genre. It's the opposite of Eggers's Nosferatu (but kind of similar to Herzog's version). Also, I watched the Great Dictator with my mom this week. She was really anti-Chaplin at first, but came around by the end. #letterboxdfriday #lastfourwatched

Had a dream Bob Dylan played a private concert for me in an abandoned office space. My photography professor ways on keys. They were jamming out an instrumental song. When I woke up I realized it was the 30 Rock theme song playing on loop on my tv.

My book Customer Service (2024) has been nominated for the Doug Wright Award for best small- or micro- press book. I spent a long time working on this book, and I'm really grateful for it to receive some recognition. If you haven't read it, copies are available from my website.

I am in the middle of Kore-Eda's Monster. Really loving it, but didn't finish it in time for #letterboxdfriday #lastfourwatched.

my girlfriend aggressively hates the Grateful Dead.

Really enjoying the recent Robert Hunter reissues Tales of the Great Rum Runners, and Tiger Rose. He's a great singer, and reminds me of Jonathan Richman. Unfortunate that he's known primarily as a lyricist.

Forgot to do this last week. So far watched 137 movies this year. Did not mean to watch Rogue One again this week, but I've been really excited about Andor season 2. #letterboxdfriday #lastfourwatched

Ruth Gordon steals the show as the feisty and fearless Maude, the older love interest to the younger Harold, in the touching and hilarious HAROLD AND MAUDE (1971). Screening Friday, April 25, 7pm at the @owensartgallery.bsky.social.

Our final film of the season is the utterly unique HAROLD AND MAUDE. Join us at the Owens Art Gallery on April 25 for a screening of this classic romcom. Screening poster by @patrickallaby.bsky.social. Our programming is supported by the Town of Tantramar and the @owensartgallery.bsky.social.

Pierre looks sickly and his constant interruptions make him seem childish. Jagmeet's acting a little childish too, but he's also been able to land some good burns tonight on Poilievre.

Jagmeet and Pierre fighting is making Carney look calm and reasonable, and it's letting him avoid scrutiny.

I'm not usually into Dylan's JJ Jackson years, but the winter 94 tour of Japan is incredible. The Feb 16 Hiroshima performance includes one of 11 performances of Series of Dreams, a rock Shelter From the Storm, and a great I & I. Give it a listen here: youtu.be/DJ8rnCIPryE?...

I would hate to go to a concert where the singer only sung to a camera.

Listening to Bob Dylan live in Kansas City, 2002 tonight. I've spent so much time obsessed over the Red Bluff show from the same tour, that it's easy to forget how great the rest of the fall tour was. Summer Days and Watchtower were staggering. It's peak Sexton/Campbell.

Audio from the current tour is really making me wish I could see Dylan again this spring. I love how consistently he's reworked the Rough and Rowdy Ways songs.

Not enough people talk about Altman's Popeye movie. Truly deranged stuff. #lastfourwatched #letterboxdfriday

for at least two years of my life I mostly made anti-Stephen Harper art. Very disappointed to see him step back into the public sphere, and to learn he's not that old.

Listening to July 10, 1981. Great concert. There really needs to be more official live Dylan releases. I would be happy with a new Dylan live album every 3 months.

The Minecraft movie is getting Megalopolis-esque reviews.
