On Juneteenth and forever… Honor, don’t bury or whitewash the history of our ancestors who were lynched. (National Lynching Memorial in Montgomery, Alabama)

Trump marks Juneteenth with a nod to racists who oppose it:

the destruction of chattel slavery is one of the great accomplishments in our nation's history and the reason conservatives hate celebrating it is because doing so legitimizes the black counter-narrative of the united states

This horrifying image is a reminder of why government transparency isn't just some niche, nerdy issue but actually a fundamental tenet of a free society. Masked government agents in unmarked cars with no license plates is deeply -- urgently -- undemocratic stuff.

Happy Juneteenth. The slave regime was terrified of education. In Augusta, Georgia, Methodist minister Ned Purdee taught Black children in the 1850s. He was arrested for it. His work was remembered long afterwards by formerly enslaved children:

Netflix’ “Oklahoma City Bombing: American Terror” was well done. The ending was really powerful.

So “pro-life.”

What are some good orgs for trans youth that could use some donations on this awful day? Reply below.

"I just don't think that's going to happen."

“the more force the state uses on peaceful demonstrators, the more the state may inadvertently fuel precisely the kind of mass opposition it seeks to suppress.” www.nytimes.com/2025/06/17/o...

These soulless people see this as a lucrative business for “doing what they love” (his words not mine.) You know who else had that same energy? Slave catchers in the late 17th and 18th centuries.

CNN put together a clip of Tulsi Gabbard testifying recently that "Iran is not building a nuclear weapon" followed by Trump saying "I don't care what she said"

🚨THIS STORY IS INSANE. The Trump administration shipped a guy to be imprisoned in El Salvador without trial, in conditions worse than we treat even convicted serial killers, because he was in a picture standing next to someone with tattoos. LITERALLY NO OTHER EVIDENCE.

This is so disturbing.

The court got it wrong. Denying transgender youth the health care they need solely because they’re trans is discriminatory, and we will keep fighting.

Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA) Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) Mayor Ras Baraka (D-Newark) Judge Hannah Dugan (WI) Controller Brad Lander (D-NYC) This is not normal. This is not okay. We cannot let them convince us that this is normal or okay.

Jon Stewart tackles the GOP's refusal to address gun violence unless it's carried out by a non-citizen

Not an original point but worth saying again - there is not a single element in this picture that identifies any of these folks as law enforcement agents. No badges, no uniforms, no vests. Out of context it just looks like a bunch of random guys are kidnapping a mayoral candidate.

This is just stephen miller trying to unilaterally reinstall the 1920s immigration restrictions Hitler thought were awesome bsky.app/profile/ewon...

When the Trump assassination attempts happened, Democrats were among the first to call out the political violence. But now, that seems to only run one way. That’s how badly Trump has damaged the soul of the Republican Party. open.substack.com/pub/joycevan...

This is not normal. A sitting president refusing to call the governor of a state after two elected officials were shot, one fatally, is beyond words. A typical president, regardless of politics, would pick up the phone. Offer condolences.

ICE just arrested Brad Lander, the NYC Comptroller and one of the leading candidates for Mayor, without grounds. He was conducting routine immigration court work, escorting individuals from hearings. He asked ICE for their warrant - well within his legal rights. This is political intimidation.

🚨Stephen Miller gets his way. Just a few days after Ag. Sec. Rollins convinced Trump to briefly back down, quotas and indiscriminate raids are back. Farms, restaurants, and hotels are now subject to ICE raids again, with intense pressure on ICE to hit 3,000 arrests a day. Miller remains in charge.

Would love to have reporters dig into this incident, which is reminiscent of the Portland arrests of protesters in black vans. My additional question: did these black vans even have government plates?

“This is how they rationalize Trump failing the tyrant test—the threat of military force is being made against people the administration and its propagandists want you to see as not truly American.”

America is one of those countries where if you host a global sporting event, inclusive messages have to be censored to so as not to anger the central government. In this case the message is “racism is bad” www.nytimes.com/athletic/643...

"I've sat on this bench now for 40 years. I've never seen government racial discrimination like this." That's what a Reagan-appointed judge said about Trump cancelling hundreds of NIH grants. We can't stop fighting Trump's assault on science, the NIH, and our values.

Things are going fine at the NIH.
