"Almost Deserved To Lose For That Alone" ⚽ In the latest bonus episode, @markpougatch.bsky.social and @paulhayward.bsky.social look back at England's kit at Euro 96. It’s an interesting choice – what do you think? Listen on @globalplayer.com 🎧 #Euro96 #Football #EnglandFootball #FootballPodcast

30 Years Since a Moment That United a Nation 🇿🇦🏉 Bryan Habana tells @markpougatch.bsky.social and @paulhayward.bsky.social about the legendary 1995 Rugby World Cup Final, the match where Nelson Mandela used the power of sport to bring South Africa together. #Rugby #SouthAfrica #NelsonMandela

Desperately sad. Rest well, Syd Lawrence. Anyone who's spent time with anyone with MND would want governments to throw every available resource into finding a cure. It's way past time for a full assault on these vicious neurological diseases. MND research is still underfunded.

Nelson Mandela's World Cup moment was 30 years ago on Tuesday. Inequality hasn't shifted in South Africa but the magic of that day endures. My column for @theobserveruk.bsky.social observer.co.uk/news/sport/a...

Jack Draper departs, with tonsillitis and a flash of temper, to defuse the pressure building on him for Wimbledon. My piece from Queen's for @theobserveruk.bsky.social observer.co.uk/news/sport/a...

First day of the England-India Test series, Alcaraz and Draper on court at Queen's, and day four of Royal Ascot. Good luck to anyone who's meant to be 'working from home' today.

And they're off. Jackets, that is - at Royal Ascot, where face-fanning is at Jane Austen levels in 30 degree heat.

My favourite part of Premier League fixtures day is fans of relegation candidates and title contenders turning straight to the run-in. Dread and hope, projected 10 months ahead. It's such a 'thing' that the Premier League is offering club-by-club listings for games 34-38.

“Nobody Could’ve Predicted The Chaos Just To Get Inside” 🥊 @markpougatch.bsky.social and @paulhayward.bsky.social take you ringside at Madison Square Garden as they unpack the legendary Ali vs. Frazier fight, and reveal the celebrities that tried to sneak in. #MuhammadAli #Boxing #FrankSinatra

This week's 'How It All Played Out' is the Thrilla in Manila and the era-defining Ali-Frazier rivalry. Please follow and rate.

Keep reading that Trump doesn't like wars and wants to stop them. Odd, because he hasn't stopped any and they've all got worse.

How Pep Guardiola defied the rule of "whatever you say, say nothing" in his speech at Manchester University. My column for The Observer @theobserveruk.bsky.social observer.co.uk/news/sport/a...

What do fans really want: breakaways and rebrandings - or familiar pleasures? Bath v Leicester made a good case against perpetual revolution. My piece from Twickenham for @theobserveruk.bsky.social observer.co.uk/news/sport/a...

What is a 'great career'? A career like Santi Cazorla's. Loved everywhere he's been, deservedly so.

Watching the brutal suppression of anti-Vietnam war protests in this magnificent series, you can see shades of Trump using the military against civilians. 'Turning Point: The Vietnam War' is a catalogue of unlearned lessons in world politics. www.netflix.com/gb/title/817...

Why Wimbledon was a winner too when Alcaraz beat Sinner to end the post 'big four' hiatus. My piece for @theobserveruk.bsky.social observer.co.uk/news/sport/a...

Thomas Tuchel was hired to "get England over the line." Or was it "the cliff."

This week's 'How It All Played Out'.. The crime against Nancy Kerrigan and the dark world of Tonya Harding. A story of violence, desperation and social class in a sport that wasn't what it seemed. By me and @markpougatch.bsky.social for @globalplayer.com @playedoutpod.bsky.social pod.fo/e/2e2b4d

“The Deals Had Already Been Done…” 🤝 England’s bid for the 2018 Men’s World Cup seemed to be going well… Until it wasn’t. @markpougatch.bsky.social and @paulhayward.bsky.social look at the politics behind hosting a World Cup and why England STILL hasn’t hosted one since 1966.

Thirty years on from Nelson Mandela's World Cup triumph as South Africa's 16th man, @BryanHabana helped us answer the question - how did it change South Africa, then and now.... @markpougatch.bsky.social

"It wasn't meant to end this way." Gary Lineker's first line at the start of his final Match of the Day.

The endless European qualification permutations we've seen this season are a poor substitute for a close title race and relegation battles. Hope we get back to those next year. List via BBC...

Tempting to think of Jurgen Klopp as Bill Shankly at Anfield today. Klopp is watching Arne Slot's Liverpool as Shankly watched Bob Paisley's teams prosper. Shankly and Klopp both walked away. But of course what followed wouldn't have been possible without them.

Dan Roan here pointing out that Sheffield United would bring to 12 the number of US-owned clubs in the Premier League. Two more and Americans would have the 2/3 majority needed to change anything/everything. @danroan.bsky.social www.bbc.co.uk/sport/footba...

That's Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Spurs fans who've been delirious this season from long-awaited trophy wins. A whole lot of happiness.

Apart from denigrating his own team with considerable eloquence it's hard to see what Ruben Amorim has brought to Man Utd. Twelve years of bad recruitment produced the nadir of tonight's performance - but Amorim should be embarrassed to have overseen a display that bad.
